View Full Version : BACKFIRE AT ENGINE SHUTOFF

i have an 80 j20 360 v8 .removed all emissions parts.charcoal canister,air inj and air pump.recently it has been backfiring at shutoff not a loud bang more like an wounded animal.wich vacuum lines ,hoses should i not plug up,seems like its not getting enough air .another ques anybody out there know of a place where i can find some tailight plastic. thanks joe

If you disconect the A.I.R. system and you don't plug the holes its the same as haveing a blown header gasket. Backfires. My 258 will backfire at shutdown if the idle speed is just much over the factory setting.

Idle High? Running too rich maybe. Converter can get as much as 1200 degrees and can cause combustion of any unburned gas at shut down. Thats if you have one http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif I love living in a state that could care less!
