I'm installing an edelbrock 1406 carb and was wondering where to hook up the wire that goes to a constant 12 volt source. I know a lot of people have this carb. Where did you hook up this wire? Also do you have to pump the gas with an electric choke or is it activated when the key is in the ON position?

That wire does not go to a constant 12v source. It goes to any keyed 12v source, such as the ignition terminal on your solinoid........phil

Yes Keyed only on that. You will need to depress the gas to get the hi idle to come on. Most likely won't start without a couple shots of gas anyhow.

I used the same wire from the 2150 electric choke, or whatever it is the has a wire going to it.

I used the original wire as well, and it wasn't sufficient voltage to open the choke. So I was constantly running very rich here at altitude.
I ran a ground wire from the (-) terminal on the choke to one of the carb mounting studs, and that made all the difference. Still haven't checked the voltage with a meter, but the choke is working just fine now.
