How long should I let the beads set on the front and back of the block before puting on the 4v manifold? Want to make sure I get this right the first time. Hope the bead is thick enough to without skwishing into my valley.

I left mine for about 5 minutes....after everything is bolted down check to make sure you have a nice bulge the entire length, if not you can push some more sealant in there....oh make sure both mating surfaces are cleaned well with carb cleaner....

I think a couple of hours is enough to let it skin so it stays together. Hard part is dropping the manifold in place the first time so you don't have to shift it around.

Yeah, tell me about it. I already had it on, then decided to take it off and put a bigger bead on. good thing I have a helping hand here.

I just got done doing it to my 401 and since drove about 400mi w/ no leaks. I put abouta 3/8in high bead on it, let it sit about 2hrs & installed the manifold. I then let it sit overnight until I finished the motor install.
I did add a little to the face to finish the seal job. J20

as i recall, i squeezed a large bead on the sealing surfaces on the block and put the manifold on right away. that way its sealed to both the block and the intake. no leaks yet(knocking on fake wood.)
