Mounted two of these 900-16's I just bought on my 71.

I'm not sure if it looks good or retarded....

Anyway they are 8 ply McCreary SuperLugs.

Almost no thread wear, still have the paint markings on the tread. One has a slow leak (they are tube tires, I have a new one on order) and one has very minor dry rot. None on the others do. Don't know how old they are, but I do know they are no older then 12 years, as the original owner bought them new, and they are mounted on 1996 dated wheels. So they have to be 12 or less years old.

Anyway, they clear everything. Pretty close to the corner of the front flair, but this truck doesn't flex much anyway.

Plenty of room everywhere else, and they don't touch the springs at full lock, or touch the rear springs.

The wheels look to narrow for them (they are FORD 16x7"s) but the mfg. says to use a 6.5" rim width.

Sorry for the crappy pic. And yes, that is my 31" 7.50-16 on the ground.

I think I will, depending on if I can get them to balance. Only thing that stinks is that I can't mount one on my side mount carrier.

They may end up on the 63.

That thing looks good with the tall/skinny on it.

My '71 has 35/15/15's on with cut fenders. sometimes wish mine didn't stick out so much for road travel.

I think they look great! The bed cap, however, has GOT to go...

The cap is to hide the bodies of New Yorkers who wander off the 'pike ;) Plus it keeps all that lovely ice/sleet/snow from rotting the beds out from the inside.

That looks GREAT!!! Should be fun for the winter.

I *almost* miss MA/CT snow/ice/sleet. :D

I think the tire set up on your truck looks really good.

Exactly. I like it myself. Really adds to the 70's look.

Still not sure I like the look of the 900-16's. I'll run them for the week and see how I feel then.

I lost around 50' of cable working with the winch today. Stupid person helping me (and watching the cable) decided it wasn't important to either guide the cable or tell me it was buching up on one side. The cable got jambed up against the rear cross bar of the mount and tore up a spot that far it. Not really sure how it tore it up like it did, but it did.

Still have 100' on it though.

Dang those look pretty good on there! I need some of those on the J10 with those hub caps for sure. Tell me again where the hub caps came from?

Always with the sweet deals, spread the wealth down to TX every once in a while.

What are the issues - if any - of running tube tires?

The hub caps are retro awesome too.

Stock J20 hub caps. All NOS when they went on the truck a couple of years ago.

Nothing really. You have to shell out the extra money for the tubes, and you can easily pinch them taking a tire on or off, but you won't notice a differance on the road.

btw what is you're gearing in that and what is it like to go from 31s to 36s?

Minor. I had to drop to third a little sooner in one spot. That's about it.

These tires ride pretty darn good. Almost as good as my balanced 750-16's. I did bump my fender (the front corner of the flair) pulling into the driveway at work though, so they will need to be trimmed (maybe) if I keep the tires.

My next set of bias ply's will be McCreary's. Very impressed with them.

I would go to a smaller size tire instead of trimming. :hide:

Yeah, but my fenders a pretty crapy. One is an add for bondo and the other has been in a fender bender. My new fenders won't be getting trimmed.

I'll probably put the 7.50-16's back on. These are cool, but not really practical. I doubt they will fit in my 63's 5.5" wide wheels, so they may be up for sale. I'll see how I feel at the end of the week.

Nice rubber for the beer money, Thom.

And there's no way to make that truck look retarded.

I hope you plan to get that rig oil undercoated if you're gonna be taking advantage of all that tread this winter.
