We just released an exhaust kit for 1980-1991 FSJ Wagons. The kit has 3" mandrel bent aluminized pipe and sounds really good:

Here is a youtube video of the exhaust (also with Doug Thorley Headers):

Here are some dyno results. The test vehicle was a 1989 Grand Wagoneer with stock manifolds, stock y-pipe, mostly stock exhaust (PO had put a Flowmaster muffler on it) and we put a set of the Doug Thorley headers (with the new redesigned y-pipe) and our new exhaust kit - blue are the old numbers and red are the new numbers:

Dyno results were provided by Carburetor Connection in Kirkland, WA -- http://www.carbconn.com/

One bonus to this exhaust kit is that it bolts right onto our new, redesigned 1980-1991 Doug Thorley Header y-pipe.

That is a pretty impressive power increase!

I was amazed myself as the Jeep that we did the testing on ran really well to begin with (he just had the carb tuned before the initial numbers) but with the new setup, he says it gets up to 95 pretty quick

will it work with 6" lift and a auxillary rear mounted tank on a gw?

I have the thorley headers and 3" exhaust on my 401, huge torque. I can break all 4 tires loose on pavement 35" with 3.31 gears, can't wait to get 4.10's in.

I was pretty impressed with the results in the driving power and the dyno numbers show it.

One of the trucks we installed them on had a 6" lift and the only difference we had to do was to swap the outlet on the muffler and it cleared the springs.

I don't know if it would clear your tank, if you want to shoot me some pictures I can compare it and see.

Thanks!

Any plans for a 79 compatible setup? I would order it IMMEDIATELY if it would work on my 79 Chero (6" lift & cat w/out pipe). :D:D:D

Any plans on a dyno run after replacing only what is in this kit (not the headers too)? Wondering how much of that increase in power is due to the headers and how much is due to the new exhaust, especially since there was already a Flowmaster.

Now, all that being said, I want it all, of course! :D

Wow -- astoundin' numbers! Makes me wonder what I'm leaving on the table with my home-brewed 3" & stock manifolds.

I, too, would like to see the numbers for just the pipes to see where my money is best spent.

The headers are $525, the pipes & muffler are $325, so $850 is a pretty good layout of cash. You say that the kit fits the stock manifolds/y-pipe but do not show what difference it would make to the configuration. I wish you would have taken the opportunity to test that combo as the test GW could have been used before installing the headers. This would have given an appraisal of just the product your are advertising and not the $850 combo. I don't want to spend $325 for a kit that, although it bolts up, does little for the stock set-up. Conversely, if the headers are the biggest difference, I am sure I am not the only one who wants to know if I can get the headers & then have a local shop make an exhuast that would fit my '79 (or make a less expensive one for my '80) & provide the similar gains.

Thanks

We have a test vehicle planned to do just the headers and then just the exhaust so we should be able to provide realistic numbers for each unit separately. I am sure the largest gains were the headers as well.

If you had a local shop make this setup, you would have a few different things happen. You would not get mandrel bent pipe which is a plus and this is a high quality stainless muffler that keeps the noise down inside the cab which would probably cost $100-150 to replicate.

Also, the IFSJA price shipped is $300.

Thanks.

you get what you pay for any quality ceramic coated header is goin to run 500+ and mandrel bent pipes are better then any local shop and as stated a stainless muffler isnt cheap either. and each time ive ordered from bjs ive gotten good customer service and a lot of knowledge

Still looks kinda hard to put that kit on a '79 though.....

The kit will probably fit a 79 with some modification... the modification being..... where the xfercase and frame are very close on the passenger side, you would need to have an exhaust shop put a piece of oval pipe or something in there to clear that...

These were made for the 80-91 FSJ Wagons..

I'll take one for the team and volunteer my 84 as another test vehicle

All you have to do is come finish the cam and intake install and she's all yours to load with whatever exhaust mods you want!

Well I pulled the trigger and will be putting it on my 79 so I'll let everyone know how it goes. Perhaps a vice & BFH can substitute for oval tube?

Didn't Archimedes say "with a BFH big enough, I can move the world?"
