oK I have a question for those people that have some experience or info on Hughes Performance tranny products.
I am looking for performance rebuild fit w/Koleen steels and kevlar lined race band(?) what ever that is. I am also going with a valve body set up for 4 wheeling where the valve body is reworked and drilled not just a heavier spring etc. If you have any info on this racing outfit out of phoenix Az. let me know.
I am ordering the T/C and tranny kits next month. CAnt wait for the ATLAS !!!!!

i sepnt almost $700 "beefing" up my first automatic inmy eagle. i sunk it under 5 feet of rushing creek water and it was dead just the same.if youre spending alot of $$ on auto mods add a tranny pan and torque convertor with drain pulgs and modifyig the stock vent to the list.also use a gm locking dipstick. these mods have kept my most recent completely stock 904 alive longer than the rest.

after destroying that one and a few others, and water in the tranny ruining my weekend fun more than once,i have decided to increase the performance of my current auto by replacing it with a t18 http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif .

here the episode that killed my first tranny, despite kevlar clutches,B&M trick shift,etc.etc. :
http://www.netheaven.com/~dwyer/amc/eagle/probert.htm

it lasted about a month after. not havig a drain plug on the first convertor or pan made it impossible to get all the water out,and it eventually killed it. my current one has had water in it a few times, and since i was able to completely drain it right away,it doesnt seem to have hurt it.

Hey, scotty, howdja do that? (yes, I know this is a FSJ forum...) I've noticed that the XJ and Eagle suspensions are very similar, I've always wanted to lift an Eagle!

the eagle and xj both use a dana 30 front diff, and a dana 35 rear diff, but the configuration is quite a bit different in the front susp. the eagle uses an IFS with coil springs and a double wishbone control arms, like most 2wd cars of the era. the dana 30 is rigigly attached to the chassis using the same brackets as the engine frame mounts, and uses half shafts to connect to a sealed bearing hub assembly, which is very similar to the xj,yj,tj,and will almost interchange, except the splines for the outer shaft are different. the rear also uses a 2 piece axle design, similar to the cj amc 20.

thats why i got my GW,originally, was for the axles to swap under the eagle.neither the 2 piece axle or the ifs are very durable off road,as i seemed to break something about every other time i took it out,tho very rarely bad enuff i couldnt get it home under its own power.

lift was very simple-2 inch rear blocks and a "helper spring" under the rear sprngs, and an adjustable coil spring expander in the front. i borrowed the 219 from it first to get the GW going, then borrowed the 904 from it(which was from an 85 eagle) when water destroyed the 727 in the GW.we borrowed some of the linkage when my frined put a 258 in his xj.

the GW is more solid foundation,as i have had almost no axle/running gear prolems at all. i plan on doing something with the poor eagle someday, but right now he sits with a spun rear hub, worn ball joints, worn tierods, idler arm and centerlink, both pinions leaking, bad wheel bearings on front passenger side,no carb,no radiator and no tranny/xfer.

i have waaaay to many projects.
