Name that movie...

So seriously...is the bumper on this (UNBELIEVABLY sharp and very expensive) J20 on Dabay a stock option?? I've never seen one on our rigs before...looks like a GM bumper to me, but they would have had to cut it down pretty drastically...

If it is stock...me LIKEE...

If it is NOT stock...me STILL LIKEE....

There were 2 bumpers used on the J-trucks from '73 on.
The type 1, with the metal ends, the type 2 with the plastic ends.
There were also chrome versions of both, I have a type 1 chrome one.
Some of these bumpers rusted while you watched.
The one in the picture is a replacement.
If you would have a chance to look underneath, you would find that there are "u" brackets to make up the difference between the Jeep frame and the 36" frame width from the "other" trucks.
I did the same thing. When the choice is no choice, you do what you have to do.

That's exactly what I thought...so what truck did your bumper come from? The full size big 3 bumpers are too wide by something between 4 and 7 inches, depending on which one you're looking at. I really don't like the look of our stock J truck bumpers and eventually plan to replace it...

I bought mine at Pep Boys. They have a rack with bumpers. Take your tape measure. Let your wallet be your guide.
I would imagine other stores --Auto Zone, etc, would have the same assortment.

that looks like the one my '65 Gladiator had. Looked like a universal replacement.

Actually, the stamped step bumpers on the AMC J-trucks were used on other makes too. I've seen them on Internationals, Chevys, and Dodge trucks. They use the same basic stamping, then trim the ends to the width for the end caps, and the bracketry is custom to whatever application.

Per the 1977 accessories brochure the Jeep chrome bumper was stamped and had no weld seams. The pictured one is not original Jeep. The Jeep bumpers had a bent angle at the top plate side toward the bed. Sometime I will post this brochure as it shows the option for helper air bags for all models and separtae helper springs for pickups.
