I have come across an 85 1 ton military chevy frame and axles in good running shape for $1400. It's got a dana 60 front passenger side drop and 14 bolt rear. Thinking using this under my 73 J4000 or streating the frame for a crew cab build combining teh 70 parts waggy and my 73.

Thoughts??? Anyone done anything like this in the past?

Thats a steal for the m1008! id pick it up just for the axles and part out the rest and make money off it lol.

It's just a frame and axles unfortunatly...

Yep, I would do it for sure...

The axles probably have 4.56:1 gears and a detroit in the rear...

If I wanted to use these axles and not the frame will they bolt up or do the purches need to be changed? I have several options as far as rigs go. My 73 post mount J truck, which has a questionable frame, a 70 waggy, or an 86 Grand I plan to go look at.

I'm still considering a crew cab build and if I were to pick up and that 86 I might think about stretching this frame, putting the 86 Grand on it with a crewcab conversion and running the th400/d20 which should work with this front axle...

Am I missing anything??? Other then a ton of time and monny to get it done that is????:banghead:

This frame, the M1008 has a 131.5" wheel base too. Would fit perfectly under a standard Jtruck can and long bed. :drivin: Wonder how it would look with a crewcab on it though. The wheels would be pretty close to the back of the cab I think... How short are the thrift side beds? M715 bed would be really cool if I could find one. But I do kind of like the idea of a ful 8' bed lined and with a canopy for the winters up here.

you would have to inboard your front spring mounts to under the frame (get rid of posts) to get the correct width for the perches on the axle. It woulb be much easier to move the frame mounts.
