Ok trying to find some info out on the J20s. Total noob to these so i could use some help. Here is the thread with what i picked up.

Trying to figure out some things, I see lift kits for these on bjs go to 73 however mine is a 74. Did something change that year with the springs? What is the biggest tire size for these without lift? With 4 inch lift? 6 inch lift? Where would i be able to buy a lift for these, anything economical? Also what is the diff between a J20 and a J10 exactly? What size gas tank is on this? Did it come with a bench seat or bucket seats it currently has buckets.
As far as a build for this im looking at a new paint job, lift, gonna need new seats maybe seat covers, new carpet and a new rear bumper
Thanks im really starting from scratch with the J20 knowledge
Also what is the diff between a J20 and a J10 exactly?
Spring rates, wheels, brakes, axles and depending on year manual transmission . All they did was beef up the components for heavier loads.
That's about it
A J10 can be made into a J20 very easily, bolt on..So 95% of J10 parts will bolt onto a J20 no problem.
I run 33" on mine with no problems . But I also don't wheel it hard. With the heavy spring pack it flexes like a brick. I think I would want a 2" lift if it was to be wheeling more often.
Anything over a 35" and you will be cutting metal out. 35" In my opinion looks the best for filling the wheel hole on these rigs.

looking on the hellcreek site for a lift? anyone know what lift i would need for a 74. Jeep is currently at my father in laws garage for the winter far way. What other options are there out there besides hell creek? Ive been doing some searching but have yet to find any complete kits
www.bjsoffroad.com (http://www.bjsoffroad.com) Don't forget to register with their site for the discount. Don't think it goes for the lift kits but just about everything else.

It doesn't start again till 76.... I never knew 74 and 75's were an odd ball suspension..
I'd call them and inquire about this..

They're post mount rear. Front is the same. ;)

So you would just have to buy a set of rears for that year and a set of fronts for the other type... Sounds easy enough....yes .. no...

I don't have the spec on fuel capacity, but I think it's around 18 gal. As for the seats they came with the bench, but later 70's, early 80's could be had with buckets, I have 78 and 82 J20's with buckets from the factory, actually found out both were bought new by the same guy and were optioned out very simmilar.

You need the 1974-75 kit, which consists of the same parts as the 76 and up kit except for the rear springs which would have 1 inch post mount bushings at the anchor end. We have one listed on eBay now, item number 260 317 686 139.

Does anyone know how much a good paint job for a J20 pioneer pickup would cost?
