First it was my red '77 Chevy Caprice wagon, then it was my white 1990 Grand Wagoneer. It looks like every time I park a car in front of my neighbor's house for a prolonged amount of time, the paint gets graffiti on it. WHen it was red wagon, I kinda of let it go, but now it's Jeep. Both happened in similar locations at a different time. I think that I've a good case to bring to Evanston Police. What do you think?

Also, I know that there is a special stuff to get graffiti paint removed without hurting the paint. What was that stuff called?

Its called elbow grease. Mix liberally with polishing compound.
When you get done you will be ready to sit up all night with a gun.

Why would you "park a car in front of my neighbor's house for a prolonged amount of time"? Sounds like your inviting trouble to come visit.

My opinion of course.

Mix polishing compound with GOOP hand cleaner (or just try the Goop alone).

Tell that to the police! And next time you park a car there, leave on it a camera recorder!

leave a sign out and tell them to paint a golden eagle on the hood..... I actually say go with the shotgun idea but I live in Alabama I could probably get away with shooting someone for messing messing with my PROPERTIE!!!

After you get it cleaned up, try mixing Rain-ex half and half with water and spray the whole rig then "buff" it back off. Not only does this make the grafitti easier to clean off, but it makes road dirt and grime wash off easy too. My 05 jeep gets a rain-ex treatment any time it gets a full wash. ( four times now since it was new...) Most times I just hose off the heavy crud.

I DO NOT recommend this on an expensive paint job. If your rig is typical old paint, it will do a world of good.

As for parking it in front of the neighbors... Is that ok with them? I know I don't care for it when folks park out front of my house even if I don't park there myself.... Just my $0.02

take it to the cops, let them know specifically which neighbor is doing it, and they'll address it. Most people don't know that not only is the street not their property, approximately 10' typically INTO their property isn't theirs either, it's the right-of-way and belongs to the city. Anyway, you can either get a long-exposure video camera and set it up to tape all night long, then use that as evidence to the police, or just let them handle it.

i know there is some stuff out there. it is kind of like silly putty or clay. you rub it on. not like a rubbing compound, you smear it against the paint. you use the same wad of stuff over and over. my brother did some side work for a paint co. that got over spray on like 30 or 40 cars. they didnt have to repaint a single one. i will call him when he gets off of work this afternoon to see if he knows what it is called or where to get it.

as for the police.......you must witness the paint squirters and be able to identify them in court .unless you have very good quality video equipment the buggers will beat it in court and you will be wasting your time and money on lawyers. probably far more than the car is worth.criminal mischief is something most district attornies dont even want to be bothered prosecuting.you would be better off finding out who they are where they live and paying them back ten fold.i promise you it will be much more satisfying.revenge is a dish best served cold.

No. I'm just saying he will entertain the notion at some point during the rubbing. As far as I am concerned, I can shoot the can out of his hand without taking a life. Its called "gun control".

I d*m sure wouldn't offer them milk and cookies. If I catch somebody vandalizing my property like that I may not kill them but by the time I get finished with them they would wish I had.

any body shop can remove the rattle can without hurting the paint underneath. my girlfriends car had this happen to her just before i met her. the idiots must have thought it was somebody elses car... but it had *itch magnet and some other profanities sprayed all over her brand new car.

Out here in San Antonio, grafitti can be a very real pain AND quite dangerous to remove. Depends on where you live and how determined you are. The city has a 'grafitti patrol' that goes around and removes the trash. One person was shot and killed for daring to remove the crap. The removers are volunteers though so it's tough. Grafitti nuts said it is their 'right' to deface other's property. One guy put up a sign that "This 'ain't' your 'hood'". The sign got tagged. The good part is the tagging is usually on city property AND only in places I wouldn't live anyway. It will usually stop if it is removed quickly enough and with determination. It's nowhere as bad as in other big cities though. Texans tend to carry big guns and know how to use them so gangbangers don't usually want to 'test you'.

Michael Medved, famed radio talk show host and all around decent guy, advocates cutting the grafitti taggers hands off. Sounds like a plan to me. Keep a VERY active neighborhood watch, with good video cameras, catch the bad guys, take them to court, give them a legal, jury trial, find them guilty, convict them and sentence them to one 'hand lopping' for each incidence of tagging. More than two incidences?? Start on the feet. More than two feet?? Then a short haircut comes into play. Extreme?? Of course, but I bet the tagging would stop...........or at least slowdown.

Personally, I'd like to see the opposing gang banger taggers chained together, supervised by a sheriff's deputy, handed the right 'grafitti cleaner upper goop' and made to remove every bit of the stuff in town.

Unfortunately, the world isn't perfect yet....................sigh.

Any pix Derek? I think you should stay up all night with one of them there pepper ball guns. They shouldn't ever forget what not to tag, atleast for like 2-3 days.

If you've ever seen what a perforated aerosol spray can does you know you and the miscreant are in for one helluva time shortly after you make the shot.

Unfortunately, the world isn't perfect yet....................sigh.while i wouldn't go as far as cutting off hands, the punishments do need to fit the crime. i'd go with something like 50 hours per tagged item of comunity service... that is stricktly graffiti removal. they have to do it in their neighborhood too, so they are removing their 'homies' own marks.

but as for everyone else, remember they are doing it to see their tag. if you keep cleaning it off the next day, they will usually stop doing it becuase their tag won't ever be seen.

I remember when I was in Kalifornia years ago, there was talk of a special paint that you put on walls, fences, etc. The special paint was supposed to make it so that after it was dry, any grafitti paint put on would simply slide off. Now THAT would be cool. Not sure if it ever worked out though.
