This is what i'm thinking of doing,
Changing to the Edelbrock 2131-non egr intake and my carb to the Edelbrock 1406.
Or should i go with the 3731 w/egr? and if i do will the 1406 work with this intake?

You'd need the Performer 1400 carb to use with EGR, or a Carter AFB 9635 which is the same thing.

i just changed to the 2131 and a holley 2bbl pro-jection (old analog type). HUGE increase in umph off of a light. dont know if its the manifold, fuel injection, or both, buts its great! get a metal valley pan, use permatex #2 or brush-on type around intake ports, and rtv around water ports. i think i used rtv around exhaust ports also. according to edelbrock: do NOT use rubber seals on ends of manifold, use RTV! nice thick bead. make sure you transfer the heat shield from the old manifold, as i dont think edelbrock supplies one (mine was used, and it came with one). have fun!

Thanks for the input, to keep it legal i'm going to go with the 3731 and 1400.
I've never changed out an intake, what kind of problems can i run into?

You'll only be "legal" in the strictest sense if there was a 4-bbl carb option originally offered for your model year.
If you're going to go whole hog, I'd follow SpruceMoose and get the Holley (what I intend to do for my Jeep). I installed it in Narnian's '81 Cherry a few weeks ago and really got hooked on it. Nice, easy setup. It'll work just as well on your OEM 2-bbl manifold.

hey, dont follow me, i'm lost too! on the other hand, the setup works great. and you can fine-tune the mixture from inside the car while driving. i found a removable cover on the firewall just below the steering column, so right now the control box is sitting in front of the center armrest. i will move it to under the dash when i get it dialed in to my liking. also, i cant tell if the terrific low-end power came from the fuel injection, the 4bbl manifold, or both. i paid $122 on ebay for the manifold, and the non-egr version is only $168 from summit, so i would go all the way. good luck, and have fun!
