I am tring to get rid of all the smog equipment and ran into a rut. There is a piece next to the air pump or canister that has a cable that runs to the carb. This goes, right? it has some connectors to it and dont know what will happen if i yank this part. I have the 80 cherokee thats desmoged and Im using this as a visual aid. It doesnt have that part. Help me before I yank it! Thanks!

sounds like the cruise control. Can you post a pic?

Sounds like the diverter valve if it is connected to the air pump hoses. If so it is part of the air injection system along with the air pump, injection manifolds, check valve, hoses etc. It may be removed along with the other air injection components and the vacuum line capped. You will need to plug the exhaust manifold air injector ports. I think 1" x 9/16" fine thread bolts will work but I could have the bolt size wrong.

Its not cruise because I checked and dont have it. Thought it was at first. What about the wires that go to it, where do they lead and do I just cut them, sorry these are rather amature questions but its legal to de-smog here and i could sure do with out the extra crap in the engine bay. thanks!

Is it mounted on the fender?

If it has a CABLE going to the carb it sounds like cruise. It may be an aftermarket system that no longer works and someone removed the switch in the cab.

I'm on the hunt for the air injectors from the original mainfold. Any chance you have these and don't want them?

Yes its mounted to the fender, I could not find a switch anywhere though. It has wiring that runs in to a factor (?) loom. I am so lost under the hood of a carberated vehichle its pittiful! Is there a factory service manual that I can buy to see what all I need to remove?

As for the air injectors, I dont know that they look like but if you can describe them there yours, as long as i dont need them to make the jeep run after all is said and done.

The air injectors are the part bolted to the exhaust mainfolds. They provide the link between the exhaust mainfold and the air pump. But I found that they may be available at PepBoys... to my surprise. I'll let you know.

Thanks
