I have just tried two new license plate bulbs and neither worked. The first blew before I could get to the back to see if worked. The second time I had my wife turn the lights on while I watched. Never lit. I've got at least 11.4 volts going through the wires. Has anyone else had problems with these lights? Both came from the dealer, and at 10 bucks a 'pop' they seem expensive to me. Are there any other sources or substitutes?
I've also blown the right side brake light twice in recent weeks, but I don't think it's related.
i dont know the problem, but i did replace mine and i just wanted you to know water does still get in there, so what i did was drill 2 tiny holes 1 in the top and one in the bottom, ill tell you if it still works when i get it back from being painted...

Most likely, it's not a voltage problem, as you've seen the voltage is there. It's more probably a ground problem.
Look for corrosion at the ground connection, or check the ground connection of the tailgate to the rest of the body. I'll bet your license plate lamp problem is related to a bad ground somewhere in the local vacinity.

I would agree with Lindel... It has to be a ground issue. Something is either corroded or arching causing the short. nullnull (http://null)
