I need to install a new vacuum motor/harness so I can switch in/out of 4WD again...

anyone have any tips/hints?

I put a 3" lift on...will the harness/vacuum hoses reach;if not how is the problem solved?

Hasnt anyone created a morew reliable mechanical switch/device thatll do the same job???

uhhmn, i would duplicate the steel lines, running under the hood, in vacuum hose.get about 10' and run it from the nylon leads and the reservoir to the front end. i'll betcha the lines have rotted where they run underneath the left exhaust manifold. this will also take care of the lift. i had to do this on my 83 and 84 wags. the vacuum motors on both were fine. it was the lines both times. i cable tied the hose to the inner fender.

And also locking the axle in every month for a bit to keep the motor from freezing up from not being used, it's a remarkably simple and reliable system. It's really no worse than mechanical cables rusting, drying out, freezing up. Certainly better than an electric motor and wiring down there exposed to the elements. Vacuum hoses especially on rigs as vacuum intensive as ours are should be on a scheduled replacement interval like fan belts, coolant hoses etc. It's cheap and easy maintenance and saves a whole lot of grief smile.gif
