I'm looking for so info on 62-79 Jtruck rear axles. Where all 1/2 ton's equipted with D44 / 6 lug axles?...is the 6 lug pattern the same spacing as the GM 6 lug 4X4 pattern? Are these axles full floaters?
Thanks in advance,

Most 62-73 would be 5-lug and be a Dana 53 or something goofy like that.
74-79 would be a dana 44 but some are offset and some are less offset.
The axles are semi floaters.
6-lug is the same as GM.

Some "heavy" half ton trucks, had a semi floating Dana 60 with 35 spline axles, they have 5 on 5.5 inch lug pattern.

All 63-69 1/2 tons had a Dana 44 with 2 piece axle shafts with the differential off set to the passengers side with the 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern.
All 70-73 1/2 tons had a Dana 44 with 1 peice axle shafts with the differentail off set to the passengers side with the 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern.
All 74-79 1/2 tons had a Dana 44 with 1 peice axle shafts with the differential offset to the passengers side with the 6 on 5.5" bolt pattern (the same a GM).
I have heard rumers of an AMC M23 with an offset differential being produced and installed in a hand full of late 79's.

Thanks Guys...good info.
If the 74-79 vehicles were running the Dana 20, why were some of the pumkins offset? I always assumed the only offset pumkins were behind Dana 18's?....is the offset minor?

Because the drive shaft has to be angled in order to clear the gas tank. Quadra-Trac equipped Jeeps also have offset rears, even more so then that of Dana 20 equipped rigs.
I've never measured the offset but I think it's around 2.5" for D20 rigs, and 4" for QT rigs. Either axle will work in a vehicle with either transfercase.
Oh, all D44 rears are semi floaters. The only full floating rears FSJ's have used are:
63-70 8600lb GVW Duallys-Dana 70 FF rear 23 spline
68-73 8000lb GVW SRW Camper Trucks-Dana 60 FF rear 30 spline, 4 bolt flange
74-88 All GVW J20-Dana 60 FF rear 30 spline ,7 bolt flange

Thanks for all the info guys.
A few more questions :o .....Do the mid-70's J10 truck and Wagoneer axles have the same WMS-WMS dimensions?
And what were the OEM ratio offerings, and what was the most common ratio found, in either vehicle?...I'm looking at a completely rusted out mid-70's Wagoneer as an axle donar, the owner knows NOTHING...what is the axle ratio "most likley" to be?....did the rear axles come with Lockers or Posi units?...were they standard on these vehicles?
I believe the vehicle has the Q-Trac T-case (no locking hubs)....so, would the pumkin be the off-set unit?
It's sitting in 8" tall wet grass, with flat tires so all I could determine in my 2 minute walk-around (without really screwing up my work cloths) is that they are 44's.
Thanks

There is about a 6 inch difference between the width of a J10 and Wagoneer axle, with the J10 being the wider one.
A 70's J10 is most likely to have a 3.54 gear ratio while the most common in a 70's Wagoneer is 3.07.
With a QT the pumpkin will be offset to the passenger side.

My 67 has a D53 rear.
Then it is a HD 1/2 ton (6000lb GVW) or a 3/4 ton (7000lb GVW).
Or someone swapped it in.
