How long has it taken to get your FSJs to where you want them? If you have not gotten there yet how long have you been working on it so far? :banghead:

What a question, I don't know anyone who ever "finished" a rig, before it was hauled off by the scrapper or sold at a great loss:(

I got mine when I was 14, I'm 21 now. If I was at my parents I could dig up the pics of the changes it's been through. When I got it, it was completely stock, cherry --no dents, rust, scratches. Up to now it has been through many changes..and is definitely NOT cherry anymore. I've hit too many trees, and tipped it over. I don't think it will ever be "done." Whenever I decide I like how it is, something dramatic happens (like the roof being crushed).

got mine in '02. I have lots of things done to it that I wanted to do...but I will never be done with it. I will thrash it so bad it will be parted, scraped, and another one built. I honestly think it is never ending, there will ALWAYS be something to do on it.

My Waggy- 8 years.
My Scrambler- 6 years.
My Jeepster- 5 years.
None of them are any where near done- The Waggy doesn't run, doing a powertrain swap, but the body/interior are good. The Scrambler is undergoing an "Everything" swap, but the body is good. The Jeepster actually runs, but the swapped in engine is crap, and it needs body work and paint, although the interior is mostly done. However this unemployed thing is getting me a lot more time to work on my Jeeps! Luckiny I bought most of the parts I needed before getting laid off...

That and...
I keep getting distracted and starting on another one! :p I usually have several Jeep projects going at the same time.

The latest is a '78 Chief and I have over a week and $1200 into it. 3" Rough Country lift, new shocks and stabilizer, 32" BFG muds, Tad steering brace, TH400 rebuild. Replaced water pump/t-stat, brake booster/master cyl, calipers, carb, fuel pump, seats, new exhaust...there has to more that I've forgotten about.
Before I did much to it I had to get it running and driving. I took it to ECI basically stock w/32" tires.
I had just finished the TH400, test drove it down the street and onto the trailer. Thanks to some participants and club members, I had lots of help working on it that Saturday and actually drove it off the trailer and wheeled it that night and Sunday. Even pulled a muffler out of the dumpster to use for the weekend! It was the first time the Jeep had been driven in several years.
Here it is after I drove it on the trailer and hauled it to ECI '08. Check out that muffler...thanks jeepguyp for bringing it. Even tho' it got thrown in the dumpster, first!

It has been to Tellico and URE. :)
However, I'm trading it for a J-10. For which I've collected another GM D60 front and a J-20 D60 rear. That one will be slapped together and abused as a truck should be. A 401 will get built to put in front of the T-18/D20 for when the 360 gives up.
'Two Dogs' ('79 Chief trail rig) has been apart for over a year now (Aug '07). I have the ton axles finished and most of the parts I need. I still need a couple of big ticket items that require more than our household budget can afford. Pretty soon I'll have the $2000 or so I need to get the rest of the parts. Then another 6 months to get it on a trail. Maybe, just maybe it will be ready by ECI '09. I'll have a pile of cash into a Jeep I got for some parts in trade. It will be worth it tho'.
'Penny' ('74 Cherokee) got stripped of her parts this spring. I have the 4.0 and D300, I still need an AW4 trans from an XJ to have what I need.
I also have a Comanche project. I'm taking my brother's XJ and stripping it of its good parts to put under a worn out '86 MJ. I'm building it for my lil' brother.

The big push was a little over two years ago, 20+Something - 8 hour days, not all in a row but darn close to it, probably 90% is documented in the link in my signature (It's Time).
It's back on page 3 there now, but I think it still has some sort of record with over 125K views.

Amen to that... somehow I've ended up with two body off frame builds (ChopTop and SuperChief) at the same time involving two body shops that managed to finish up at almost exactly the same time and completely drained my Jeep account.
So the SuperChief is a year old and is this far along:

and the ChopTop is about 8 month along and looks like this:

I need to pick one or the other to concentrate on... :banghead:

I don't know that there is such a thing as being done, but I'd like to think I'm close. The Honcho's been here 3 years and na.......who am I fooling. Not done.
Since then, the bed's been removed and launched, a couple of TH400 rebuilds, a lift, tires, I've completely undercoated the underside of this truck, POR 15 the frame, and so much more. But done? Na.
And yup, the original bed was toast:

If you stretch the definition of FSJs to include the Willys pickups, I'm into year 13 and it's still "not quite there":

For my real FSJs, the J-20 will be the project - had it a little over a year and haven't done anything to it yet...

No, then it becomes an Algebra problem (most of us were building other jeep stuff/junk/things way before we got FSJ's).
Mine go back to 1974 (that one was stolen while away at age 14).
It's a curse I think.

I am 10 years into it now, not quite finished yet. I don't think it will ever be "finished" there will always be something to do. Now of course I am distracted by the Scrambler that I finally pulled out of the woods and got back to my place.
