I'm new to the full size Jeeping as I just bought a 64 J200 that I'm bringing home this weekend and I have some questions about parts and such. I know that the drag link between the steering box and bell crank is shot, the rod ends are not removeable, thus causing a lot of steering slop. Is there a source for a new link? The original gas tank is gone and one has been installed behind the seat. This makes me a bit nervous. Are replacement tanks available? All I've seen are for later models, how well do they fit the older truck? Any other pointers are appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 70 j3000 with the tank behind the seat and I used to have a 64 j400 with the tank behind the seat. Both of these were factory and it may have been an option. The bellcrank may be rebuildable using the CJ kit from J C Whitney as there 2 sizes listed and while I have to check, I believe that the drag link ends are rebuildable but do not have a source (yet) for parts.

Welcome aboard to both of you and, Gladiador64 I see you have one of the few Ford built Jeeps, cool.

I thought it was only the Willys do Brasil Jeeps that were built by Ford, and didn't think those went beyond the Universal line.

I'd love to hear different, though. So far, I know of FSJ's assembled in Mexico, Argentina, Australia, and I'm always looking for information on other outside-USA FSJ's.

Brought it home yesterday. Lots of fun but the steering needs help. Am I better off to convert it to a Saginaw system instead of tinkering with the Ross box and the rest of the junk? If so what would be the best donor to look for? Thanks. tongue.gif
