Howdy all, Just replaced my rear shoes (I didn't know they were not self adjusting!!..oops)

Anyhow, my rear clyinders *seem* to funtion, but look like I could change them out.

I know BJ's has got a couple, but I can't really find anywhere else, dealer wants $45/side and said that from m/y of about 1980 to last year of FSJ are all the same. Is this true?

Mine have the litte "T" shaped thing coming out of the cylinder that the pistion pushes that then are pushed to engage the shoes.

Can someone clarify if this is true?

And if not can I use an later model, that is maybe more readily availiable?

Thanks in advance,
Happy Jeepin'

i wouldnt bother replaceing them... unless you break the bleading valve off... then you get real problems.....

Get a small cylender hone... and rebuild them your self with a kit.....12$$ tops'..... is ther a carQuest in your area.....

ask around......and find out what size bore you have......

and while your at it... replace your hydrolic fluid....after the rebuild.!!!!!

Hydrolic fluid actually absorbs water.....change it.. and you will be suprised on the new brewaking/ foot peadle power!!!!!!

I buy new Wheel Cylinders. I do not think they are more than $12.00 a side. Hardly worth messing with.

I agree with C_J get new ones. Any parts store will have them. I can still get wheel cyl's for my 63 from Napa so 81's shouldn't be a prob. If you're just keeping a farm truck alive yeah just rebuild the ones you got if they're not pitted too bad but for a daily driver go new. Around here they run about $20 ea.
Ya never know when some cell phoned yuppie next to you leans over to turn the investment page of the paper at 70 mph and is suddenly in your face RIGHT NOW...maybe it's just a Seattle thing <shrug>? :( Get new cyl's.

And guess what you guys are right, Napa had them.
$11 a pop. Nice.
