84 Grand Wag, vac lines were cut when engine was replaced, so 4x4 does not work. I just spent a lot of money on trans and xfer case rebuild, so I want the 4x4 to work. How difficult is it to connect and hook up all the vacuum parts? What do I need to test the parts? I saw the vac diagram in the tech section, are there any out there that are easier to follow?
Thanks
Aaron

Aaron, I sent you a different copy of the same diagram. They don't get any easier to follow since it's only the vac shift components but this one may be easier to read.

How difficult is it to connect all the lines? Do any of the other components in the system typically go bad? How can I check them?
Thanks
Aaron

Go ahead and buy one of the vacuum gauges/testers that has the gauge and pull trigger on it. Its about $30, but has been worth it for getting my vac stuff in to shape and testing vac parts.

I've run across a GW or two on which the plastic lines had dried and cracked apart. I'm curious what you would use to replace those lines -- will rubber vacuum lines work?

Yes, rubber works fine. It's simple. All you need it primary vacuum going to your switch under the dash...then the two lines coming out of that switch will hook up to either of the two nipples on the servo on the side of the transfer case. Doesn't really matter which way you hook them up, it'll work either way, your labeling may just be off. If you get it backwards the first time, just switch em.
