I had dead cylinder Friday(#3). The exaust valve was sticking.

Now I am putting the rockers back on.

Every time I tighten the bolts the exaust valve opens up. I'm at TDC on the compression stroke for #3. I just don't get it. I'm starting to wonder if I have a lifter thats not going all the way back down???? It does move up and down when I crank over the engine. But I'm not getting any pressure because the exaust valve is cranked down to much. Am I over looking somthing???

Thanks

You may be overlooking something. Check the valvesstem height against a few others with the rockers off. If it is taller than the others, you either have a tulliped valve or a sunken valve seat.

The hight looks fine untill I tightn up the rocker for the exhaust. Then it pushes it down alot. Almost 1/4 inch. The push rod is seated in the lifter, and in the rocker.

When I back the bolt out to where it's not holding it open, I can atleast get a 100 psi in that cylinder.

Thanks

Larry

You could very well have a bad lifter, Sometimes they wear concave and do stick in the bore. You will need to torque the rocker to spec and then rolle engine over by hand, till Valve opens, then closes again, if there is a Hang Up check what it is that is hanging up at TDC on that CYL. You will be able to tell if the lifter is sticking, as the Push Rod would be to high for TDC. Both pushrods should be same height at TDC on that CYL. If it is the Valve that is sticking the Pushrod would be LOOSE, real loose. Valve height should be the same at TDC. I would roll engine over till the Hang Up occurs, set to TDC on that CYL, then pull both rockers off that CYL, match Valve Height, then PushRod Height. If there is a differance of height in the Valves, its a stuck Valve, If the Differance is at the Push Rods, its a Lifter or Cam problem. Good Luck smile.gif
