My frame repair is almost done, and now I have a bunch of parts underneath with exposed metal.

What can I go buy today to give to the welder to spray on there?

I'd like some of that por-15 but I would not know where to get it locally.

I used some cheap truck-bed liner spray. Since it's cheaper, it's not that thick stuff. It dries nice and hard and isn't gummy. It's just a bit thicker than paint but still allows you to access bolts. I really like it so far.

Stick with POR-15 it is worth the cost.
Try the company web site for a local dealer.
www.por-15.com. (http://www.por-15.com.)

I found a POR-15 dealer locally! Is that what everyone recomends?

Go with the POR-15.....great stuff. One thing to remember here......preparation is EVERYTHING with paint- especially POR-15. Also, I don't know your welder....but, would he take the time that you would to apply the paint? Just something to think about. smile.gif

Narnian,

I am in the midst of repainting my frame and I am definitely using POR-15. Matter of fact, I am 15 minutes from their location in NJ. :^)

Good Luck, Tom

Yeah, I think he'd do it right. He's already done some things "extra" that I didn't think of to make the welding job right.

Primarily, I want him to paint the stuff I can't easily get at once the gas tank is back in place. I figure I can always go back and re-do the exposed areas later.

Good Luck, TomWell that makes it nice! The dealer I found is only 10 minutes from where I work, but they don't have everything I wanted in stock. At least they have what I NEED.

POR-15 tips:

1. Like it has already been said, prep is everything.
2. Don't use their semi-gloss black. Inconsistent color.
3. Don't use gloss gray. Doesn't cover as well for some reason, needs 2 coats.
4. Stick with gloss black. If you want another color, you can topcoat the POR-15 while it is tacky. I use Rustoleum semi-gloss black as a topcoat. The finish looks like it's been powdercoated. Krylon does not work as well.
5. POR-15 exposed to the sun will fade. Shouldn't be a problem on your frame.
6. I don't buy their "Marine Clean." I just use Simple Green, which is ALOT cheaper. Just make sure it is free of grease and oil.
7. The weirdest thing about this stuff - it dries faster in higher humidity. It dries in one hour here in tropical Florida.

So far, I have been pleased with it.

I used the por on my frame repair before I put the tank back in. Seems to work very well. Highly recommended by some of the restorers I know.

weve used por 15 a lot and were never really satisfied with it.if there were any loose rust pockets or dirt under it it would peel up in sheets.maybe we just didnt take the time to prep it right.we did it to a new ford frame and we prepped that one very good but it wouldnt stick at all.but the frame may have been treated.i also live next door to where its made.

oh yeah
welders cringe when they see the stuff on sumthin theyve got to weld on with por 15 on it.
