With open arms I welcomed a new member to our family (my wife didn't but she'll learn to love this one too) this weekend. A 76 J-10 Honcho. Yes with the 401. Of course not in running order but thats why I have several drivetrains available on the side of the house. Actually it came with an extra quadratrac case which is the issue. Body is rust free with a bit of suface rust hear and there. One good dent in the pass door but otherwise real straight. Planned non op pink slip in hand. I had to nogotiate on this one. I got it for $220. It will probably be a couple months till I can get wrenchin on it but I had to swing the deal when available. I'll try to attach some pics of it in front of the inlaws place after I picked it up in Concord. The best part is it was a gold miners Jeep from Forks of the Salmon in northern CA. It may still be if I take up gold prospecting to keep the tank full. I got rid of my 74/80 J-20 longbed 10 months ago as it wasn't very nimble on the trail and it was at 6-7 mpgs and just sat. I have been looking for the right deal on a shortbed for a couple years now. It will most likely be fitted with a small lift and 33s once its running clean and possibly go bigger when I have the time and money. We'll see where this one takes me!!

Just out of question...a junk yard out in my area would give me $250 for that J truck. I wonder what the going rate was out there? I mean, did the guy know he would have gotten $250 for it from junk yard or are they giving only $150-200 for it?

Its off the trailer finally and on the side yard for a rainy day when work slows down.

I have learned how to get them cheap. The last one was a 80 LB j-10 (also 401, clean body, burned tranny) for $300, before that was a 74 J-20 that ran good but was rusted pretty good (although we made a nice trailer from the bed and frame) for $100. Those 2 made a nice rig. Jeep math; 1 Jeep + 1 Jeep = 1 Jeep!! Before that I got a 77 J-10 for $800 with a bad motor. I just happened to have one from the previous NT Cherokee I got for $500 with a Rhino clip to boot. However my 1st, an 84 J-10 Laredo was the cleanest by far but put me back $5000 and burned lots of oil on a fresh rebuild. The first one should be the only expensive one to get, but timing IS everything.

Odometer reads 81,xxx and the son in law of the guys whose it was said it could be as it didn't see lots of miles and the previous (original)owner supposidly didn't drive it much. I guess a compression test when I get to it will tell the story.

He was just trying to get it out of his yard as he inherited it. I'm sure if he knew his other options he could have gotten more for it. I'm glad he went the route he did.

I'll post the progress when I get to wreching and see what I really got!!
