I'm almost ready to do the 4.0 head swap and I'm getting the head back from the machine shop tomorrow. I had them do a valve job and weld the water jackets shut. When I spoke to the machinist he informed me that the head had been cracked and repaired in the past and that he went over it gain. My question is.. Should I be concerned that it could crack in the same place again? There seems to be conflicting information about welding cast iron. Anyone have any experience with this type of repair or thoughts on the subject?
Thanks

Welding cast is a little tricky, but if done right its a good fix. The trick is to pre-heat, and peen after welding with a good quality cast rod, then heating again, and slow cooling. As long as the welder did all the steps correctly it will be fine.

You can always ask if they will stand by the work, and if they hesitate, or refuse, then I'd be concerned.
