Does anybody know where to get some cheap shackles with 1.5-2 inches of lift? Are there any shackles from other vehicles that will fit on an fsj to give it some lift?

to get 2" of lift from a shackle, you need shackles that are about 4" longer. Which means your front caster angle would go to hell, and your truck wouldent handle well at ALL.

Bj's sells some lift shackles, or you can get some rear F150/Chevy 1500 shackles to go on the front of the fsj. They give about 3/4" lift or so.

2" lift shackles will not affect your steering to a point of being dangerous. Don't go any higher than that, in some states even 2" is not legal. I ran a set of 2" shackles (4" longer than stock) on my yj and my dad has a set on his. It does not steer the same as stock but it does not handle bad.

Chevy trucks use the same style shackle on their leaf sprung stuff and they will work, not sure if you will find too much in the 2" department but they wouldn't be that hard to make either, just be sure you put a support in the center. Also check for chevy rear lowering shackles as they are opposite our fronts and will work too.

BJ's shackles are advertised as 1" of lift.

the GM rear shackles for 88 and up will net you around 1" of lift up front....

Gotta agree with Stuka on this - 4" longer than stock = squirley handling. Good chance it won't self center. Good do the opposite - let go of the wheel and the Jeep veers hard to one side...

Think about what's happening to the front axle. You're rotating it top forward. This means your steering nuckles are no longer parallel to the road. They're now rotating slightly up and down, which means the weight of the vehicle will seek to force them to the bumpstop... better not let go of the wheel... smile.gif

shackle inversion (up front) will give you about a 1" lift.

i put the "lowering shackles" for chevy/gmc p/u on the front of mine (it has already the shackle reversal up front) the "lowering shackles" are 6" from bolt to bold where as the factory shackles are 3" bolt to bolt. THe reason i got longer shackles up front was that the shackle/springs were bottoming out on the frame when i went off road, but the chevy jc whitney "lowering shackles" were "too long" and too funky on something that is barely legal/safe for highway use already so i took them out and put on rear replacement chevy/gmc rear shackles made for 73 to 87 p/u @ $25/ea but with rubber bushings they dont seem like they will last too long... also dont forget to put lots of grease on the bolts so the shackle can pivot on it w/o binding... i get longer 1/2" bolts, kinda leave em loose and then double nut them so the bolt wont wander out (unlikely due to the bind the spring has on bolt...never the less...safety!!)

Oh, now that the front spring is at a funky angle since the shackle is at the back of the spring instead of the front i am going to to have a new spring mount made at the local mtl shop. They can cut/stamp/bend the metal plate to make new spring hangars. I think i will have them use either 3/16" or 1/4" plate (their 200 ton press doesnt care what size the metal is) and have them make new front spring mount for the front of the front spring... the factory mount puts the spring eye bolt abt 2" down from the frame and i will have tme make the mount with 5/8" spring bolt holes at 4"...5" and 6" so if my calculations are off somewhat i can move the spring around to get it where i want it... where it shd be for the spring to be parallel to the ground like it is supposed to be...not that it seeems to make too much diff as it still springs... even with one leaf removed from the R/C stiffy springs (im too old to be beat to death by those oversprung after market springs/shocks. along those lines i had em make new shock mounts so i cld use the factory type shock as with the super duty springs it justs needs "a shock" not those super stout off road shocks... it rides a little better????
