ok i have a set of 4 hummer rims in the works :D brand new with the 37in goodyear radials. they have a 7in offset and i was wondering if anyone else has tried a set. will they clear the steering? my other options are to have spacers made (safe?) cut out the old center section (actulaly the faceplate) and weld in a new centersection at the correct offset(safe????? and i am still feeling lazy on the fabrication) or last but not least...
just turn them around and mount them that way. ok so the bead lock is now on the wrong side but i was just wondering will this play havok on bearings .fitment is not a prob as i am sawzall equipt

Were these the run flat type with beadlocks? I heard from a friend with a Hummer that those are a major pain in the arse to work with. I think you have to have some kind of special tool or something to change tires due to the run flat system... Is the bolt pattern the same as a FJ?

I have a little knowledgeof the Hummer tires.... not an expert.... but do know they are an integral part of the ride and clearance of nthe Hummers.... My humble opinion is to sell them to a Hummer owner and save the headache. Putting them on an FSJ.. wow.... you'd have to match the offset and the gearing etc.... if you have the rest of the Hummer (tranny out...) then you might try a complete transplant. They use the Chevy powerplants and the Chevy trannys I believe, but the diff's out are Hummer designed and used... specifically for GI use. That's why the civilian version is so freakin' expensive. Sell 'em and go for a 7 inch lift and 35's..... hell, for a 7 in lift make 'em 40's... Enjoy!

well, with widetrac axles,my 4" offset(i think) 10 "wide wheel with a 38.5x15 tire oly has an inch or so clearance at the rear leaf spring, and barely clears the tie rod up front. ive got my steering stops turned waaaaaaay out to keep the tires from rubbing the frame and spring at full lock.
my guess is that even if youre gonna run full width cehvy 8 lug axles, you are gonna hafta either: a)add spacers b) move springs inboard and modify steering,or, c) modify the wheel.
run em backwards? hmmm. even if that is an option, remember that the offset should place the wheelbearings close to the center of the wheel. if you run em backwards(or normally for that matter) you may be placing the vehicles weight somewhere other than centered over the wheelbearings. this is gonna cause bearings and ball joints to wear out much quicker.a hummer needs the 7" extreme front wheel drive offset due to its reduction hub assembly.
not to criticize your idea or discourage you,but personally,id sell em to a cj guy that wants to run full width axles but keep his narrow track, and buy yourself a set of real beadlocks. as was mentioned, theyre a pain to work with, and you will have to deal with the offset somehow. its gonna be a fair amt of work to get em to work,i think.
this is all specualtion,of course, ive not personally ever tried to fit one on a FSJ...
good luck, let us know how they fit and what youhave to do to em...

i've been doing alot of research on this subject becouse i'll be runing the duel beedlock hummer wheels on my rig. the only way i can see to make them work is to use duelly spacers front and rear on a set of fullsize 8 lug axles. as far as the bearings they would have the same weight on them in the front as a duely front wheel and we know how many of those are runing around. and just to play it safe plan on replacing them fairly regularly to keep them dependabe. also make sure you have the runflats, otherwise you will have no beedlock setup due to the fact that the runflat actualy pins the tire sides to the wheel which in terms makes the duel beadlock. this is all in thery, and from what i have gathered from friends and other sorces and i have not actualy had a chance to do this yet due to the fact my project is taking so long.

ok here is what i got and some knowladge to spread around :D
there are 2 types of hummv rims/tires
bias with 6or8 retaining bolts and radials with 12
bias tires can be put on both but only radials with radials.there is 2 types of runflat the 2 piece magnesium (split and held with bolts) and the rubber ring type. i have the rubber ones .the guys at the motor pool taught me a trick to change the rubber ones.(in case ya get a pair and need to change tires)
take the front rim half off and center the tire against 2 posts or trees take a chain and weave it on the beadlock studs so ya got a web in the middle of the rim. put a hook in the middle and winch or tow the rim out of the tire/runflat.the rubber ones are a little better than the magnesium ones as the do not destroy the tire as much when it comes time to have to use it.that and they are easyer to ballance.they also said they usualy toss a doubled condom(dont laugh) filled with some grease so when it runs flat the grease packet pops and prevents too much heat from burning the inside of the tire so they can reuse them.
My j20 has d44 front d60 rear with the same 8on 6.5 bolt pattern as a hummer
oh and hummers use a modified dana 44 center section with cv(cheesy s10 size) going to portal geared hubs the severe offset of the rims is so the friggen thing can fit on the highway
