View Full Version : MPG..you've got the experience
Alright...new.rebuilt motor..obviously some small tuning issues with the carb..but before this cold stuff started I was getting 16mpg on the HWY and at least 11 in the city and now it's like 7-9.2 in the city and the same on the highway..just a Q :D I don't mind spending the money on gas..just wondering if something was up that I should check into..
and I wish the extra .25 a gallon was going to those starving kids in the middle east that bush wants to bomb! I couldn't resist
Losing a couple mpg's in the winter to longer warm ups, slick roads, tire spinning etc is normal. Deal with your "tuning issues with the carb" and see what you get afterwards. Also make sure your choke is adjusted correctly and is opening fully after the motor is up to operating temp. Going from 11 mpg/city to 9 mpg's/city I would consider normal for the winter in the mid-west region.

Also a new engine wont get the same milage. Once its fully broke in your milage should go up a bit. As a tight engine has more friction to it, so more power is lost.
7 to 9 MPG is about what I was getting when my power valve vac hose was not connected, the power valve was always open. Was the carb rebuilt? The PV vac hose should be connected to manifold vac. Pull the vac hose from the PV, you should not see or smell gas in the line.

Is this the same engine I just read about that has oil out the exhaust at 3,000 miles???
Just doesn't sound right to me......
All the OEM emissions/vacuum lines/rats nest can cause a significant drop in fuel economy & performance if a couple of lines get switched around when attempting to put it all back together.
Is it a new rebuild on the 2150 as well??
Just a thought.....
