OK, here goes....I have a serious noise comong from the engine compartment....an air noise, possibly vacuum.

I cannot tell where it is coming from. have replaced all the vacuum lines, held propane, shot carb cleaner, starting fluid...everything, around everything I could think of.

It is a really loud hissing, air noise. The Wag runs great, no miss, no idle problem, only a little black smoke at full throttle, brakes work good, tranny shifts well....I am at a loss.

Itis so loud you can hear it inside the jeep with the windows up.

It stops completely under load when accelerating...I assume because there is less vacuum at higher RPM's....I dunno...

So please, does anyone have any ideas?? suggestions??

Thanks
Andy

check the vacuum lines that work your heater controls under the dash

Do you have the 2150 carb? If so I would look at the altitude compensator, it may have gone bad.

It stops under acceleration because there's less vacuum when he throttle is opened. Your highest vacuum is when decelerating; lowest vacuum when open full throttle regardless of rpm.
Anyway, I had a vacuum leak under the dash once too. End of vacuum hose had split at one of the ports on the heater control thingy. Just trim the end & stick it back on. Another candidate can be the line to the vacuum motor controlling air flow to floor/windshield.

You got a vac switch for your 4wd? Check that or look at the black ball at the firewall. Both were bad on my Wag. The black ball has a stiff line that can break easily and you can't tell 'cuz it looks like its still hooked up...

Good luck!
