Here is the new Cliffhanger front bumper. It isn't for sale yet (couple of weeks) but A LOT of people have been asking so I thought I would share some pics.

The first prototype, the center part was built out of 8x8 and on this pictured Cherokee (6" lift and 35's) the 8x8 looked massive and out of place. We reduced the size to 7x7 (which what is pictured) and it looks MUCH better.

It will have a stinger option (not pictured yet) and it is very heavy-duty!

Not sure yet, I should have pricing nailed down in a couple of days (after the builder crunches some numbers and puts the stinger on).

How does it bolt to the frame?

This is of course, my opinion...
I wasn't very impressed with the pre-runner bumper's mounting brackets. When compared to the quality bumper, they were kind of wimpy. On a later model rig ('79 +) it mounts up great. However it only bolts to the frame horn extensions.
There is no way to mount it to an earlier rig, with the exception of adding the frame extensions. Tad makes some, but the that's all the bumper would be bolted to. Add a 12k pound MM winch, a stinger and some lights...

I would like to see the mounting brackets go down the side of the frame rails.

Good suggestions, especially since they do. They utilize the Dozer mounting in the front which Tad designed. This also allows them to fit ALL FSJ's except for 63-73 J-trucks (spring hangers get in the way).

Thanks.

Hey, that looks familiar...

BTW, if you are counting mine as the "first prototype ", it IS 7x7. I didnt care much for the 8x8 one. Its amazing how much different 1" on each side makes...

Yes, I guess yours was the 1st prototype... the 2nd prototype was 8x8 and the current one is 7x7...

So does this mount to the OEM snow plow mounting holes that are on the frame rails? (The same holes that the Ramsey hidden winch kit mounts to)

This mounts to the framehorns (if equipped) and the 2 holes on each side back in the frame which are on all of the early FSJ's as well.

Are the Fairlead Rollers crooked in the second pic or is it just the angle in which the picture was taken?

Here ya go guys... Ive never posted these super secret mounting pics, but with Brents aproval, here they are.. :D

Passenger side... Notice how long these things are. They offer plenty support so there shouldnt be any worries while winching.

Driver side... Notice how the steering box bolts through the bracket so that there are no more worries of ripping it off the frame.

Will there be an option to recess lights like the old one? What about receiver hitch? Not of interest to me but it's a fairly common option on front bumpers these days.

Oh ya - when will the pricing be set? :D

Put me in line for one. I've been looking at the one on Dmntxn77s Jeep and thinking how good that would look on the Cherokee.  Just out of curiousity....will they be offered in CHROME? :D

LOL, no, no chrome, sorry. Although with the welds on this (even the ones that haven't been ground) look really sharp so chroming may not be too terribly hard.....

I am not sure there is room for recessed lights but I can check this out and the hitch will probably be an option but maybe not since it would hang pretty log to miss the fairlead. I'll check with the builder, thanks for the input!

This isn't really a for sale thread, I just wanted some feedback on what everyone would like to see as an option or maybe some adjustments if something looked out of place...

It seems that a front receiver and winch could eaisly be an either/or option, since the receiver could eaisly go inplace of the winch box and come out the front of the bumper instead of under it...

Can BJs hook us up with one to raffle off in Ouray next July Brent?

Is there any chance that BJ's would sell just the mounting brackets for those of use who want to build our own bumper?

Johnthose brackets aren't that complex, just flat steel cut to match the shape of the frame. a cardboard template wouldn't be hard, and a local shop could cut it for you.

can we get pictures from the side? i'd like to see how much it impedes the approach angle.

I have a cardboard template at my parents house for mounting brackets very similar to those. They have all the measurements and the angle the front of it needs to cut at (to make the bumper straight). If I have time this Thursday I'll dig 'em out for you. It looks like the only difference is my brackets weld on to the bumper versus bolt, and I used box tubing for the support versus a piece of plate.

I know they work great for making ditches bigger! Approach angle is pretty bad on the old version. JMO. It's kidda like an unwanted snow plow sometimes.

on fsj's without the framehorns their are just the 2 mounting bolts then? are the 2 bolts strong enough to handle the bumper or are their gonna be other mounting holes for the pre-79 jeeps. the driver side will also have the 4 for the steering box right. that would make 6 bolts on the left and 2 an the right.

I'll tell ya boys, minutes are passing like hours standing by for the listed price, for me anyways. Basically, my rig has no sticker til I can get a bumper, and THIS is the one Ive been wanting since I saw it on Bang Bang's ride (at least Im thinking it was his).
