i just ordered a new flowmaster muffler and tailpipe kit for my GW. thanx to everyone on their past posts which led me to my decision to buy the flowmaster muffler, and also let me know that they had a set of mandrel-bent tailpipe parts. i will post the results of the installation in a week or two.

Without seeming rude, can I ask how much you paid with shipping and all? I'm pondering the same system, but once again I want to try it myself first before I pay to have someone else do it. Thanks!

$160 from summit, incl 6.95 "handling" (no shipping). i asked if they could ship it without handling it, the guy laughed and said "nope". i am hoping the only thing i will need is a bunch of 2.5" clamps, which i may have lying around. the hangars look OK. i have bought an MSD 6 (which did nothing for me) and the current (no pun intended) jacobs pro-street w/coil that is now installed from them. good service and tech support.

Still got the MSD? If so, do you need to get rid of it? http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

Spuce...have you got your new muffler installed yet. Curious to see if it was bolt up ( sleeves and clamps) or did you have welded?

Also, do you have a cat. conv?
Finally what does it sound like?

I need a free flow type muffler, have no cat
but want quiet, like an OEM sound .

eevw: i probably wont have it until the weekend, or maybe early next week.
i do have a cat converter on the GW. the next upgrade, in the spring, will be a hi-flow cat and headers (probably hedman). i will post my progress and results.

ok, the parts showed up monday afternoon. they look fine, very heavy muffler, perfect slip joints on the pipes. i will try to install it this weekend and post the results asap.

got all the old, leaky junk off, and the new, shiny stuff on. the tailpipe kit is in 4 pieces, and by using a chrome 60 degree tip and a slip-fit 2.5" joiner i did not have to use the 4th piece. it all lines up with the oem hangars. i bought 7 clamps for the installation. boy, does this sound good! at idle it sounds like "restrained power". great rumble around town, not too loud. no hiway time yet.

Spruce:

Do you have any pics of this. Also, how did hte tailpipe come, in peices and you put it together or was it bent to fit your FSJ? What size pipes did you get?

sorry, no camera/no pics. the entire exhaust from the cat back is 2.5". the muffler is a flowmaster 50 series with delta technology baffles, offset inlet, center outlet. the tailpipe kit is a universal 2.5" kit from flowmaster for RVs and SUVs, from their web site, page 20. see also my post 3 above this one for details. btw, the tone mellows out to a very low volume lower mid-range growl at 65mpg.

graham...it's no typo, although, in fsj-speak an mpg > 13 denotes "miles per glitch" and an mpg < 13 will henceforth denote "miles per grin" or something thereabouts...

Just funnin' Moose...(go Flow!)

graham: i'm not sure what you mean about: "please dont saaaayy that was a typo about that mid-range growl at.........." are you asking about the sound or the speed? (i'm a little slow today)

the sound is back there, unobtrusive, but noticable.

and i do cruise at 65mph, traffic permitting. i have put it at 80 a few times,(late again!) and its solid as a rock! btw, the exhaust sounds better from 55-60, a little louder and lower.

SlickKipper: i see what you mean about "mpg". my mileage has gone from 12.5 to 10.5, but i am having a ball! and how the h@ll did you get a GW with only 32kmiles??? i'm putting on that many every 2 years!

Moose,
Your mileage has gone DOWN(???) with the ProJection??? I'm going to have to reconsider getting one now!

I got my GW from a friend of my grandma's down in Columbus, OH. The ladys husband got sick in 93 or so, and stopped driving it at that time. It was garaged winters, and the couple only'd used it for occasional weekend trips to a cottage they had in nearby Hocking Hills. Anyway, the husband died, and the GW was 1 car too many (and of course, a Beast) so I was down in Ohio vistin' gma, found out about it, went to "just take a look" out of curiosity, and the rest is history. It actually had 27 or 28K on it when I bought it.

Maybe I'll post a pic of the thing from when i bought it. Course, the only visible difference would be the original white wall tires and the subtraction of running boards.

Kip
