How do I go about replacing the input seal on the 727 transmission???
With the shaft sticking out, there's no way to get a seal puller in there. Can I remove the bolts and pull that cover off without all the innards coming out and piling on the floor in a mix of ATF, friction material, ball bearings and the oil dri that is already on the floor?
I searched here and the web but couldn't find any info.

Just did mine a couple of weeks ago. Remove the bolts from the cover and yes fluid will run out. I did mine while it was standing up. There is a large 0 ring on the front pump, replace that, the seal comes out from the front but is much easier to drive out from the back. There is a gasket on the front cover. I had a tough time getting the torque converter to line back up but this was due to the front pump concentric being out of alignment (hard to explain) but it took us about 30 minutes and a couple remove and adjustings to get it back together. I had help from an experianced TF guy so these are the items I observed while watching/helping.

Sounds like if I could get a J-hook on the back, I could improvise a slide hammer.
Failing that, I'll take the front cover off like Alan described. As long as everything doesn't come falling out in a big unrecognizable pile, I'm happy. :D
