My fuel guage finally stopped moving last week. It would sit at 3/8 full whether I was topped off or empty. Figured the sending unit was bad. Bought one at the dealer. It bench tested out to spec with my ohmmeter (110ohms at full, 1.7ohms at empty). When I had the sending unit removed, I shorted both sending unit wires together (no resistance, right?) and the gauge went to Full?!?! I would have expected it to go to Empty. Oh well, I just ignored it and installed the new sending unit.

Now my gauge sits pegged to Empty! Any suggestions? Does this indicate something wrong with the guage itself?

Thanks in advance for any help....

As la mula ssid check for a bad ground. If your gaude reads E and you ground the hot wire going to the sending unit and it then reads F the sending unit isn't grounded.

Mine is reading full all the time, even while sitting on the side of the road with no gas. Where is the sending unit located? I recently added the two gallon gas can in the back seat option! :D My best mod yet.

The sending unit is on top of the fuel tank. On 80 and later Wags you can get to it by drilling out the rivets in the access cover under the back seat. Drill carefully...the plastic tank is directly below the cover.
