OK, I revisited the site where I found the FC170
Dana 70 rear axle and there is a big International
Truck, apx 1979 or so of the size/type used by
lumber yards to haul sheetrock, etc. The engine
is gone but there is a huge cast iron manual
transmission that looks like it needs a home.
There is a parking brake assy on the output
shaft/yoke but I could not see any ID or
numbers on the case. Just wandering if any
of you folks know what International used
in the big trucks (Cab/Chassis) type?
The rear axle is the huge dumptruck size so
not much interest there but the drive shafts
look very beefy with U-joints that dwarf 1350s.
Anyone think this trans might be desireable or
have any idea what it might be? Cost is $0
if I want it. I'll try to go back and get more
info on the year/model of truck and take a
scaper and flashlight to see if I can get any
more info off the trans. Looks like the truck
rolled over in an accident a long time ago.

If it is a 5 sp it may have some value to a IH guy, but probably only a few hundred. They made 5 speeds in several ratios, one of which has a overdrive.

ChiScouter,
How low are the 1st gears in these things?
I'll see if it's a five speed also.

Most likely a 5 speed, Spicer ES series. If so...
clutch housing : SAE #2
max torque input: 700 ft/lbs
u-joints: 1610 or 1710 series
weight: 438 lbs.
It is also available in a 4 wheel drive model, bolts to a large spicer t-case

Stolen76,
Sounds like you know your stuff. The clutch
housing looked more or less round. What do I
look for to ID this beast...
This truck is 2WD. Everything is gone from
in front of the trans/clutch housing so getting
it out might not be too bad other than the weight
factor.
Can these thing be bolted to AMC V8, Ford 385
series (429, 460, etc) or Chevy V8s without too
much of a problem? 700 ft/lbs sounds "beefy"...

Thanks for the info.
