Im relativley new to the world of winches and have a few questions. I found a good deal on an 8274 last year, so I picked it up. Got me a great winch bumper a roller fairlead to go with it. Ive used it 4 times. Three times to pull my truck and once to get a deer up a steep bank. Anyway, the three times Ive used it, It's been at a real sharp angle, and the cable bunches up on that side. Then it takes me an hour to unroll it cause its all wedged in one side. Is this something you deal with when having a winch, or am I doing something wrong. I think part of my problem is that the winch sits too far down into the bumper, cause it scrapes the bottom when it all bunched up. Thus making it real hard to unroll. I think if I raise it an inch or so, that will help. Any suggestion will be great. Thanks from a winch newby! Dennis
Bunching of cables during severe angle pulls is a given. Not much you can do about it except to respool the cable when you get unstuck. That's probably not what you wanted to hear but that's the way it goes.

Thats what I figured. It not that big a deal, but when I have to unspool it 2-3 times to get up or out of a situation, with all the bunching up, it just takes a long time to get out. To get up this one hill, I had to unspool the 125' 3 times. It took me more time to untangle and un spool it than it did to pull it the three times. I really feel if I had some more clearance under the spool, it would unspool much easier. Raising it an inch or so would be a snap, hust drill 4 new holes. Thanks

Add a snatch block and tree saver (if you don't already have these) to your list of equip. to help adjust your pull angles when you can.
