hi -
a while back i saw a b&w pic of a wag (or chero) with a tent or awning extending out from above the tailgate.
the pic showed 2 poles into the ground at one end & the other seemed to be tied down to the roof racks above on open tailgate.
it looked to be a factory job & i thought i had saved it, but er, no..... - if you have it, can you post it? i'm looking to have one made.
with thanks in advance

Fair weather set-up. All the comforts of home... stove under the hood, fire extinguisher on the bumper and enclosure for the toilet hanging for the back

We used the TailGate tent on the side of the Wagoneer four or five times.
Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
I used to be quite indecisive but maybe now days I’m not so sure!
call me dumb but I have had thoughts of trying to make a roof tent for our FSJs. Some Aussy sites have pictures of them for their "ute's". Kinda like those cards or book that open into a big display when you open the pages, tent would like a roof rack, may 4-6" closed and hinged on one side. When you get to the camp site, you "unfold' or open" like a book the roof tent and the part that is not supported by the Jeep has poles. This way, you actually sleep on your roof, its safe, you can store the food and stuff in the jeep.
Just a thought though.

I saw lots of those in South Africa on Cruisers and Rovers. They still have the older cool body style Cruisers over there.
I am pretty sure there is a company out there making them and they should be rather generic to vehicle as long as your rig is wide enough. http://www.autohomeus.com/ is one.
Most have an exterior ladder, but I seem to recall some that had an access hole through the roof.
When there are things in the night that will eat you, sleeping on the top of your rig makes sense.
When there are things in the night that sleep in trees and will eat you, sleeping outside a solid steal or wooden structure makes NO sense!
It was really peaceful out there, but I kept wondering just how much protection that nylon was really providing..
(yea, I know they are not intended to protect you from the big cats, but those are the things that I was certain were coming for me in the dark..:hide: )
