Well I got motivated to do the valve seals on the 86. I decided to pull off all the emissions since I was going to go through it anyway and it was in the way of the valve covers. My god, I can't believe how much emissions stuff there is, now I am scared I am not going to be able to put it back together.... :banghead: Luckily Shimniok re-did the emissions diagram so its readable. I might have a chance of getting this thing to run again someday.

So the old valve seals were loose and came off very easily. I got the new seals on with no issues. I am still not sure how these things actually "seal" anything since the valve stems will just move them up and down anyway. Am I missing something?

The link http://www.corcos.it/valve.html should shed some light on the function of valve guide seals.
As for the smog viscera what I almost always do now the technology is available is to take a picture of the engine fully adorned, and take further pictures as each item comes off. Just my .02.

<points and laughs> Sorry darlin'! You know I couldn't resist. I keep telling you all to move down here where we don't have emissions!

I've got an '88 that is mostly complete that I could get you pics of if you need them. Someone here might already have them saved on their 'putor and could e-mail them to ya.

Believe me Krista, my wife and I would love to live down there. If it wasn't for the kids we probably would :D
Thanks for the info guys, I have a good diagram. Just cannot believe the difference between my 74 and 86.
