well, the borg qt hasn't work sinced we bought the chero. as i am a virgin with this, i hope you don't mind a couple of questions ...

here's what we found. the vac lines at the firewall had been disconnected. after jointing the front prop and being under the beastie, we found the vac lines disconnected at the transfer case as well.

well, we hooked the the rear lines and the front lines to see what would happen even though we didn't know which line goes where. We fired the Chero up and switched to EM drive and nothing happened. When we switched back to Normal Mode, the EM dash light flashed momentarily. We did that a few times to make sure. So having the EM light come on turning to NORM told me we had the lines backwards. We switched lines and now the EM light flashes going to EM mode. We figure the light should stay on when in EM mode, but it doesn't. And now we 'hear' the vacuum going thru the EM switch as we turn it.

My questions are ...

Does this sound like the Rear Vacuum Servo has died and isn't holding vacuum?

I'm used to my Bronco with manual locks out and the T-Case Shift lever. I know when i'm in gear with that.

On the Chero, how different is 4x4 drive action when EM is engaged? Is it really noticable like the Bronc's 4-HI and 4-LO?

thanks, in advance....

PS, while digging through the rear storage area, my son found the original Factory Jeep Trailer wiring harness and instructions. I didn't pay any attention, but the Chero does have the Jeep Factory Tow Package. The harness has never been used! Still the plastic package. Complete with a flasher unit. If anyone wants a schematic of this, let me know. I'll put it up.

I just went thru the same thing with my 79 LTD. I will send you a diagrahm I got thru the board. It is a vac diagrahm for the QT. Make sure ALL hoses are new from the switch in the dash to the hoses at the trans. I had the same hiss and found I did not have a good seal. Take your time and do 1 line at a time. I had a helper wiggle the hose from the top while I replaced the lines underneath so I was sure I got the correct line on the correct fitting. You might check to see if the top switch is out by pulling vac on the switch and see if it will hold.
Hope that helps.

Seems to me it could be just a bad switch. However the Vacuum supply should be from a reservoir this would be a black ball looking thing on the firewall behind engine (center) It needs Vacuum from a reservoir to be sure the E-Drive stays engaged during low Vacuum conditions. Since the light does flash when it is engaged I want to think it is actually engaging and is just a switch problem. E-Drive will not really make any noticeable difference unless you are already stuck or in a low traction situation. In normal mode your rig can have power to either the front or rear axle generally not both at the same time. When E drive is engaged it then sends equal power to front and rear axles at the same time. I notice you said you put a front drive shaft on, how long did you drive it without one? Unless it has a Part time kit installed or was locked in E-Drive which does not sound like the case since it was disconnected, could have been the DEATH of the transfer-case. Q-Tracs should not be run with either front or rear driveshaft not being in place at all times, and no manual hubs are to be run on them either, unless always kept in the lock position or a part time kit was installed. Here is a Q-Trac Vacuum Diagram. The line marked APPLY would be pulling Vacuum when E-Drive selection is made with the selctor, Line marked Release would be pulling Vacuum in normal mode. Hope this helps. Anyone wanting to save this diagram save it to hard drive as I will be takeing it down in a few days. :D Q-Trac Vac Diagram (http://images.andale.com/f2/116/106/4651773/1022471975406_Q_Trac_VAC.JPG)
