Hello all.
Well after two Cheorkees XJ's 86 and 89 ( the 89 is still my daily driver) I've decided to jump in to the deep end of the pool.

I've been watching this old 1977 J20 that has sat for two years in front of this guys house at the end of my street - well last night the for sale sign went up - I was on it like white on rice.

I know the engine runs but other than that I had no idea of its condition, he told me it starts with jumper cables and runs "OK" but once its off you need to re-jump it to go, he said 3rd to 4th grinds like mad - no matter how fast / slow / with or with out clutch and the breaks are shot.

We got to the price and I darn near died when he said

(wait for it...........)

$250.00

I think I broke the land speed record getting to the ATM

From what I could see, J20 D60 rear, 44 front, T18, Dana20.
I'm dragging her home Saturday - hope to have some pictures up on Monday or Tuesday
:drivin:

So hello from a new member -

Mods - I think I have the file size (dimension) and size (Byte count) with in parameters.
If not let me know, and I'll convert to external links.

Here she is - straight off the tow chain!

Bed after cleaning about 3" of leaves and junk out of it... No through rust - just surface rust W00t!

Literally 1 1/2 of leaves - pin needles and "stuff" was packed under the seat. Time to get the scraper and the 4" grinder with wire brush out.

After the cleaning - looks good so far - don't see driveway.

Looks like you definately got your money's worth.

Kinda wierd looking at that color green on the inside of the cab. Cars nowadays all seem to be either black, white, gray, or dark red and blue. The 70's colors always stand out, sometimes good, sometimes bad, but they stand out.

I think it's safe to say it is GREEN. :D Something like one of the Go Package colors on the old AMX. You got a deal for sure.

250 clams for that? That's a good buy!

Looks like an old Forest Service truck.
Where are you located?

Tonka you could be right - I'm in southern Idaho - I found a bit of paperwork (1980) with a local address on it here in Idaho so I think it's been in this area all it's life.
Which could also explain all of the pine needles in the cab and bed. We have very little pine in our area closest is 1 hr north toward Sun Valley.

Thanks guys I'm looking forward to getting her road worthy. I think I'll try to get the bed off, and start from the rear end and start working forward.

As the progress happens I'll just keep adding them to this thread, my problem is - no garage here so as the weather gets colder I buy and store the parts for a warm day and then shut down work until spring.

Just a running commentary - more for me than anything else - but heres an update.

This weekend I attempted to fire it up for the first time.

I do not know when it was last started, the engine looks recently refreshed when I bought it, I replaced the fuel filter, added 3 gal of gas to an empty tank, added 3 shot glasses full of gas to the carb and the 360 fired right up.

I had no issues with it not starting other than a hard crank until the fuel made it from the tank to the carb, hence the three shot glasses full (one at a time in moderation... HAHAHAHA) until fuel was delivered up front.

I filled the radiator and let her idle for an hour to make sure the radiator fluid was throughout the block, it did not leak and held pressure.

Also took both outer and inner layer off the front off to bang out some dents on the front passenger side where the front marker light is.

Southern Idaho? "closest is 1 hour north towards Sun Valley"? you wouldnt happen to live in the Jerome/Twin area would you? if so i just moved back to Jerome after about a 12 year hiatus in Pocatello.

if so be kind of cool to have another member in this area. looks like you got a good deal on the truck. bed is in much better shape than mine was before i hacked it off.

Well like I said this is more of a running comment area for what I see and do as I get around to it. Money and time willing.

I know it did not stop (at all) and finally got the front left (driver side) wheel off and look at what greeted me.

The complete lack of brakes.

As stated elsewhere now I just need to figure out 4" or 6" lift with 33" or 35" tires.
While I have it apart, I'll replace anything that needs it axles, gears, brakes, think about an Aussie locker for the front too while I'm at it.

That's a great deal - a J-20 with a T-18 is a desirable combo.

Did it come with a tailgate? Good ones are scarce.

Barely recognizable tail gate.
It is so dented and patched with pop-rivets that you'd not know it was a Jeep and it was held up with 1" chain - the latch inside the gate is smoked too.
