Anyone know what kind of puller I'm suposed to use to pull a drum off a tapered shaft? This is the first car I've seen to need a puller to take it off and I can't find the right one to do the trick. The books says to use a puller but does not say which kind. An axle puller does not match up, I've tried. Until I do this, my brakes are screewed.
Thanks In Advance...

you do not have to pull the hub to remove the drums, in fact you should not pull the hub.

Good call, just slipped but I fixed it. I did mean drum.
Thanks
To pull the drum off of a tapered shaft you need one of the pullers that bolts down. It has about 5 jaws that seat on the backside of the drum. You bolt it up, and crank away at it and I promise you'll be amazed at the results.
I rented mine from an industrial rental place, wherever you'd find trailer and heavy tooling being rented, you'll probably find one.
This way is much easier than heating, oiling, beating, and ruining your drums. After I went through 2 whole days of the above, I got smart and rented the drum puller.
Good luck!

Thanks, I tried a slide hammer but didn't want to dislocate my arms so I gave that up. I gave it maybe two whacks (more out of frustration) and didn't want to screew up my drums so I stopped. It's just real hard to find that puller so I appreciate your advice. I'll try that tomorrow. Too bad the Chilton book wasn't a little more percise about needing to do that in the brake section.
"Step one: Place dynamite, lite, and run to remove drum!!!"
Finally read about the pullerin the drive train section.
