I had a dental appt today in Cortez so drove my GW to work since we could not ride together. After the 2 hour sit for cleaning (argghh) I went and got some cheap gas. $3.73 is cheap? Well, we are paying 3.94 in Mancos. After the fuel stop, I was waiting to get back on main street, had to wait for pedestrians before I could turn left and got a yellow light. As soon as I was clear to go, I punched the 401, light turned red, hit a puddle on the way across (it rained, yay!) and got sideways. Wouldn't you know there was 2 of Cortez finest in a new Durango right there to see it all. POOH... I could not find my current registration but everything else was in order. I told him I sure didn't mean it and that the tires were wet and I had a locker. He told me I was trying to beat the light. "yes sir, that is what I did" The other fella was standing on the passenger side keeping an eye on me the whole time. Made me nervous. The officer came back and let me go! He did mention those blue dots in my tail lights are no bueno and told me to take it easy. I was ready for the ticket, but relieved. Must be living right or something. :fsj:

Seems like a fair and reasonable Officer did right by you. Thats the way our laws shoud be applied.
Yeah those little blue dots in the tail lights are outlawed in all the States, I think. Have been since the 60's (?)

around here you can only have them if your rig is 30's or earlier i believe, and then they can't exceed a certain size.

I got almost 90* and a little to the left trying to get it calmed down. :p Told the nice officer I had been here 7 years and no one ever told me that about the blue dots. I ain't claiming innocent by any means and know they are illegal in some states. I'm just glad I did not stay on the skinny peddle after straightening it out. :D

I think law inforcement uses blue lights on the rear to let other cops know it is one of them. At least on there motor bikes.

I am sure that nice officer in Cortez won't be so nice if he sees them again.

They are made to go into the tail light to give it a "Blueish" effect.

Flint, it is about the only benefit of looking like an old fart. :D The cops think you aren't dangerous.I thought about that too! :D He told me this when he let me go: "I had determined I was writing you a ticket for wreckless driving when I pulled you over". So I was thinking if a 20something had been behind the wheel, it would have been so. Still feel lucky. And old. ;)

Not likely. He had his shirt on.
Those lights are not DOT approved. The city police usually don't say anything about it around here, but the HI-PO's will give you a ticket.
Edit: a little clarification -not DOT approved for "highway use".

If you are decent to the cop ( I'm not saying sucking Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley, just polite & professional,) have a decent driving record, have your ins, etc... up to date, that gives you the best chance of getting out of a ticket most of the time. If it is a stste patrol or some other unit that just writes tickets, your chances of getting out off it do go down some.
