Intake manifold question

What is the main difference between a 2 and 4 barrel intake? Are you required to change the manifold to a 4 if you are putting on a 4bl carb?
I am just curious!

I'll field this one...

A 4bl flows more air, better for WOT (wide open throttle) operation. A 2bl won't flow as much, resulting in a possible power loss at WOT.

You can put a 4bl carb on a 2bl manifold (they make adapters...don't know about AMC-specific though). You probably won't gain much.
