I've thought about this, but have never seen it in person.

Just be sure to label em GAS, or it might be embarrasing during a WOT!

years ago my buddy reworked an ol F1 ford truck, we built a flat bed and hung a couple of kegs under for fuel tanks, looked kewl.... big mistake cuz those kegs are the property of Raineer beer. well he got stopped and was charged with theft, it ended up with him having to buy the kegs and if remember right they cost him like $100 a piece (1970;s prices ouch) but the charges were dropped.
so ya better check first

Ya, they are the property of the brewery / distributor. They have actually increased the depost when you buy a keg because people were scrapping them and turning a profit.

yeah its legal, i thought about that too. LOL im in the process of chopping, cutting and upgrading everything and i want to get rid of the coffin so bad i cant stand it. i was going to use a 15 gallon drum that a friend of mine found, then i came across the keg. i want to keep this low tech as possible to make things more reliable offroad.:D

Not sure if your familiar with the internals of a keg, but the female tap end on the top is actually a stem that reaches all the way to the bottom. You can remove the stem. There is actualy a special tool for this - but you can do it with a screw driver and pliers.

I would remove the stem, weld it up, and weld on a new fill nozzle, feed line, and drain vavle.

thanks for the video. i was not aware of the inner workings of a keg. and by the way this keg is one that was found at a yard sale. im like the 5th or sixth owner i think. so dont try to give me a guilt trip on stealing stuff.:p

Actually, I have a couple of these pony kegs (1/6 barrels) that I was thinking about making air tanks out of. I'm not sure on the pressure rating on these things, but with my kegerator system, you can put 40psi of CO2 on one if you want. I guess I could always hydro test one with a pressure washer and a gauge. There about 5 gallosn in size.

five gallons will go about how far????might be a good idea for your old vw bug but for us it seems like alot of work to not go far.

Thats why I said I was thinking about making an air tank out of them, not a fuel tank.

I am pretty sure that Aaron on here has some kegs on his 715. We'll see if he posts up.

on the pony kegs, you simply change out the valves and add a CO2 regulator, and fill them with CO2. They won't shoot across a field if the regulator / valve gets broken, and they'll air up all of your tires about 3-4x before needing a refill.

I needed a new tank for my 1970 J2000. took one out of a 1972 Chevy Malibue down the barn, its thin and fits between the rear frame rails, still working on mounting it up. and fabbing a skid plate. Also it has the return line allready.:drivin:
