Does anyone know if CJ seats will fit into my 81 Cherokee? My front seats are really bad and the high backed buckets in the Whitney catalog look pretty good. Anyone ever done this?

I believe that you will have to modify the mounting brackets.

I purchased some of those seats for a CJ several years ago. THey were nice. They did not come with brackets and had to be attached to the exisitng brackets. I think they used a CJ style seat in some J-10 trucks so I suspect they will fit using the exisiting brackets.

Jp mag did an article about putting seats intended for a CJ into a cherokee. they fit with minor modifications to the seat brackets. Can't remember the brand but I think they were Steelhorse

The only problem with the Steel Horse, and the seats that you see in JC Whitney is that they don't fold forward.
For those of you with 4 doors, or no kids, that's no big deal, but for me, it's a royal pain.
I plan on using Procar seats (http://www.procarbyscat.com) in my Chero. The have everything to offer that Steel Horse does, plus they fold forward. They also have the brackets for the FSJ.

You might consider '84-'89 Mustang seats. They tilt forward which is a requirement for a two-door Cherokee. I put a set in my Chero. Required some minor mods. An easy afternoons work. Virtually any contoured bucket you choose will be a great improvement over the stock seats.

I just last week put a set of Bestop seats (for CJ) into my 80 Wagoneer...my stock sliders fit onto the seats exactly (they come with 3 sets of mounting holes on each seat so they will fit different year sliders)...then the bolts off the sliders that fit into the mounting brackets (the parts that bolt into the floor) were off by about a 1/4 of an inch on one side...so i loosend the floor bolts holding these down - got the slider bolts into the brackets and then tightened everything back down...so far so so good, and i don't anticiapte any additional problems. The CJ replacement seats are a slight bit narrower than the stock seats so there's a little more room between the seats and the center arm rest and doors...but man are they comfortable, sit a bit higher than my old seats and added whiplash safety by having hi-backs, etc.
