Well, I think I need to go to the doctor and get my head examined, but I'm back in the FSJ business again.

I would like to give a big THANK YOU to Tanker for towing this back to SC for me - helluva nice guy - just don't call him sir :D .

I haven't had much time to look things over real good, but here are the basics. I will take better pictures tomorrow.

The good:
'80 J20 with brow
good running 360 with 4V factory intake off an older model
motorcraft spreadbore carb, not sure which model
has alomost 40psi of oil pressure when hot - maybe the sender is broken!
all gauges work
T-18 trans
44 front / 60 rear
208 transfer case
no rust on the fender flares, rocker panels, or the brow rain gutter
no rust on the frame - very solid
headliner is almost perfect

The questionable:
surface rust on hood, roof, and top of the bed rails
driver's door rubs the fender when you open it
tailgate has surface rust, and handle is missing

The bad:
windshield is clowded up at the bottom
dash pad is toast
floor pans need to be replaced - stupid fresh air vents
passenger side inner fender is rusted out from battery acid
who knows what else I will find tomorrow

Life is good....

PS, what member on this site makes floor pans for J trucks?

Congrats on the newish 20.

Not to take any business from Gary but to offer another option, Z&M Jeeps also sells floor pans.

Well, I finally got around to taking a few more pics.

Check out this tag on the insdie door jam - looks like this was some type of service truck at one time, then the bed was put back on - this may explain why the tailgate is not rusted out.

It even has the factory CB / radio combo - haven't even tried it yet.

Check out the custom animal print steerig wheel cover - the wheel is in great shape - not sure why the PO put this on. I think i'll keep it for character:D .

The rear springs packs have 3 leaves and helper springs. Rides like a tank.

The engine bay is fairly un molested. It has a rebuilt engine in it - block was painted grey. Still has the evaporator canister, but is missing the overflow tank.

This is typical jeep - check out the GVW - so is my J20 really a 3/4 ton?

The GVW should be on the VIN sticker in the driver's door jam. Our 77 J20 also has the 4600 on that firewall VIN plate but the VIN sticker in the door jam shows 8400 GVW. We have the same overloads and it is very stiff. It is loaded with a cord of firewood right now and did not drop down a bit.

Looks like you have a very nice work truck there!

I checked the door jam sticker, and it says 6,800lbs.

The J20 came standard with the 6,800GVWR. There were also 2 heavier duty options of 7600 & 8400.

IIRC, the 6800 had 2 leafs in the rear, while the 7600 & 8400 had 3 leafs. Judging by your photos, looks like a previous owner may have swapped in a set of the heavier duty leafs

That's the Gross Axle Weight...for the rear axle.
