View Full Version : My first FSJ

On friday, I'm going to pick up my first FSJ. I started with a 97 TJ, then had a 00 XJ, then a 94 ZJ. I've been out of Jeeps for awhile, but have always wanted to get an FSJ as a project truck. Well, today I found this 1981 Wagoneer in **** nice shape sitting for sale. I stopped and took it for a drive and it runs pretty good and drives great. It spent most of it's life as a Texas truck, then came to Iowa for 4 years. Only 1 of those years did it see winter. So, that being said, there is hardly ANY rust!! The frame and suspension have less rust than my 02F150, barely surface rust. The body has 2 little spots under the tail lights on each side, and 2 spots on the left rear door where someone got mad at it and hit it with a baseball bat years ago :(
The best part is, this running, driving, nice looking, clean SJ is mine on friday for a mere 500 bucks.
I'm gonna tackle the minor problems first like getting the drivers window to stop coming off the track, make the rear window work, and get the stereo to work. After that's all done its a Rusty's lift and some tires. Who knows after that, we all know how Jeep projects go, they're never done.
I've lurked here for a couple years, Im looking forward to being a part of the Jeep community again, especially the FSJ community here. Anyway, here she is!

SOOOOOOOO... The guy called me today and, even though he had accepted my offer and I was going to pick it up tommorow, his dad sold it out from under me for 1500 :(

That really blows. Apparently there is either a major lack of communication between father/son or they didn't even have the decency to let you know ahead of time to let you make a counter offer if interested.
Hey, at least you saved 20k in the long run. :o There will be others.

He did ask me if I wanted to make an offer to counter the other guy's 1500 offer, but I'm a cop, we get paid in bags of pennies and jelly donuts. I think was pisses me off the most is I worked about 145 hours in the last 2 weeks just to afford this thing now I'm S.O.L.

Do you have a wife, the $1500 offer would most likely be from her to have them not sell it to you. Save money that way.

No I'm single, not even a girlfriend (last one left about 2 weeks ago so I'm occupying my time with toys.)
I did find a 79 waggy on ebay for BIN of 700, but it's down in southern Missouri. Not sure I wanna drive that far. He says it runs and drives, but the tranny slips, but he includes an extra working tranny with the auction. Body isn't the greatest, lots of surface rust, and some nasty cancer on the tailgate but it's a project! I'll post the link, you guys tell me what you think. He doesn't provide much in the auction description but I've been in contact witha request for more pictures and descriptors.

There's some decent rigs in Iowa that you can check out. Here's a decent 401 J-20 up in Mitchellville for $1250:

Be patient, they are around there and aren't always rust heaps. Could also check with bigblack74, he is in Des Moines and seems to find nice SJ's.
