Ok, I'm trying to figure out why my '91 has such low compression and was checking the ##'s to see if someone hasn't swapped motors on me since it sat in a junkyard for a while before I got it....My VIN says engine code 7....'91 360....the valve cover tag reads....11nxo2.....The N tells me that this isn't the original motor right????

In the 1986 books the N stands for a 360.. I noticed your number pattern is a little different though.
Maybe someone else has a newer manual.

My '91 has seven digits. This is from the Tech Section under Engine and Engine Electrical.

Engine Codes - 360 V-8
Contributed By: Joe Schaefer
The six digit Engine Code is stamped on a metal tag on the front of the right Valve Cover.
1st Digit - Year
2nd & 3rd Digit - Month
4th Digit - Type
N- V8-360 2V
P- V8-360 4V
NX- V8-360/5.9L w/2V carb, 1987 and later.
5th & 6th Digit - Day

ok, my ##'s don't make any sense...011NX02 with a B in the upper right hand corner...the 0 puts it as a 1980...11 means November....NX is supposed to be 360 2v 1987 and later???....02 means what?? 2nd day of november?? The B is supposed to mean .10 overbore on the cylinders right??

The first digit being 0.....How should I have a NX in there if NX was after 1987??

My guess was the numbers start over with '90 so yours would be correct.
The NX means after '87 and the date would be 11/02/90.
My '91 is 105NX24.
One more check is on the drivers door jamb. There is a tag with tire size and pressure. The month and year will be at the top. Look in the bottom left corner you will see MDH followed by six digits. That is the Month Day and Hour yours was built. It should be within a month of the engine tag.
