Ive owned my Cherokee 10 years now, and I love it. But dang sometimes it just feels like too much. just putting the 14 bolt in now and looking at the underside of the body. and the frame and think  . Not sure I want to do this anymore.
then I think of course I do, this is what makes it fun right?
Right !!!!
Now get back to work...:drivin: :fsj:

i've thrown in the towel.... only to run in and grab it... and hold it close to my bosom... and say.... "Im sorry, I could never let you go"
dam Jeeps...http://www.getsmileyface.com/sm/crazy/518.gif
thats what tomorrow is for..
I keep saying that about my Jeep also..It is still sitting out there broken...Maybe Tomorrow.. :banghead: I need a helping hand. My help is a 78 year old man,or a 40 year old drunk...Neither of which understand anything about a vehicle. I need a better neighborhood.. 3 broke down Jeeps and an arsenal of NOS and custom parts that never get installed:o
I've almost remedied my DD situation, which controls my financials on the Jeep. I just stumbled across a nice 79 J20 as well:eek: ...
It never stops....

if you become a slave to anything it gets tiresome. it is just a car, don't let it become your everyday life.if you're sick of working on it,stop. if you're sick of owning it,get rid of it.
My mom has a new inspirational magnet on her fridge...
It's all good in the end. If it isn't good, you aren't at the end yet.
Go work on it so you can:drivin:again.

Hang in there. I too get overwhelmed sometimes with the amount of work that I want to do to a vehicle. Try to set realistic goals and work from there. I also always try to keep my vehicles running - it seems like the moment I take one apart and stop driving it, I loose motivation.
I know what you mean about needing a helping hand sometimes - I normally try to get creative and use an eninge puller to help me move large items.
Remember, this is a hobby that is supposed to be fun!

At least the drunk will bring beer. I get to do everything myself, which works out usually..spend 4 months figuring out how to do something in your head right the first makes the end result usually successful :D

thats how Ive been. when I was driving it regularly I couldnt have it down for a period of time to do any of the big things. Now its not my daily driver, its hard to get working on it. also makes it hard that its at my parents house where the tools are and I'm not.
my problem is I always change my mind what I want to do with it. everybody says its my ADD, like I have ADD, I mean really... oh look... a butterfly. WHAT!?
but really I can never get rid of it, I truly enjoy it too much. Just gotta recenter my plans.

My Jeep is a secondary project for me. My primary project is what takes all my money and focus. I enjoy working on my waggy because it's a change, because I know I don't HAVE to work on it and because it's not a show vehicle. If I wanna start cuttin metal or chopping wires for a new project I can do that and not worry about neatness as long as it works and is reliable. Even if I got tired of it and tried I couldn't get rid of this thing. Gas prices and the economy have kept it in my driveway...and I'm alright with that. It's continually up for sale and I have no expectations of getting out of it what I've put into it.
These points make it a fun project with no pressure

I was all about working a my 78 when first got it. I got it running decent and then found out the carb was junk. After 2 months of waiting on my carb i finally got it to day along with a **** ton of new parts for it. With things going bad with the gf (even though we just got back together today lol)i can put all my rage and anger into putting the parts on and getting it running again which will make everything better. untill i break it again
just hang in there and everything will be good when you get it all done.

Every time I have to do something else to a Jeep. My 90 is my DD, and my 85 is for my kids to drive. My son blew up the motor in the 85 about mid-July, the very day I was coming home from Ouray. I'm just now getting to putting in a new (to me) motor. Hopefully I'll get started tomorrow. Or not. I need to get it running by the 18th when my wife leaves for a week and can't cart the kids to school and back.
My 90 is running good for now, as long as I don't have to run it for any length of time on the freeway or pulling a load or it overheats. I'll figure that out someday. Maybe soon. Or not.

Yes, yes a thousand times yes. I could never get what $ I have into it, not even close. My brother has been borrowing the GW for a week, I needed a break from seeing it. I am going to try again and go from there. The problem is (if you want to call helpful people:thumbsup: a problem) you can usually get a very good answer here at IFSJA, because the same thing has happened to a member and they have a fix/solution for you:)

Thats funny, My Wag is my first fullsize, I find myself thinking sometimes that I would like to have a smaller rig again. It is inevitable tho, I will get a ton of people stop and make comments on how cool it is, or it doesn't get stuck where others have. I just pat the dash and say" I love this truck"

Yes, a few times with my CJ. Every time my wife spoke up and told me that I would regret it and just park it for a while. Every time she was right. I've owned it for 21 years now and I would have most certainly regretted dumping it.

I have thrown in the towel. Numerous times. But for some reason that towel is like a basketball and keep's bouncing back up.:) ;) I wouldn't worry about it.
I always remember what a good friend and forum member told me a few years ago about these rigs.
They are strictly a hobby and not worth any kind of heartache, worry or misery.
I've never forgotten that and if those 3 words ever do fit into the equation, then I'll call it quits.

I am starting to get there...Having spent a few years and a decent amount of money on mine...but not having gotten it done yet and with gas going up I am getting to the point where i can afford to feed one v8 engine but not two...so eventually i will need to choose between my GMC truck or my wagoneer....I still love driving the jeep but dang having so many things still that need corrected on the jeep makes it a daunting and never ending feeling at times....

I'm in the same boat. I have had my 76 Chero "almost" done for over 5 years now. I got to wheel it once when I first got it before I did all the mods and it's been sitting since. I've thrown in the towl a long time agoe, the real problem is I cant sell the d@mn thing!!!! so not only is it eating at my that It sits there almose done but I can't get it out of my sight!
At this point i either need to finish it or BURN IT!!!
Sure,
Tossed it in right after Ouray, very dissapointed in my 2D Projection setup.
Just moved it today for the second time since Ouray.
Fired right up, drove great, go figure.
Road my bike down by the river.
Shoveld some rock and trimmed a tree when I got back.
Looked at the ChopTop and said "**** You, We are going back to Cruces"
I am in charge of that Freak Rig, it will obey!

Yep...thrown in the towel numerous times..and I still keep coming back for more...
Then again it was nice to be handed a waggy recently...since I swore it would only be the trucks I'd work on. Now I have both. And a host of other hobbies that keep me busy.

I've given up and let mine sit for months even a couple years at a time. Sometimes it takes awhile to build up the gumption. I've got more plans for it than I probably will ever get around to finishing. But it runs so I just fix what I have to and occasionally work on something I want to. I am just hoping I don't have to do any more engine swaps for awhile. Hang in there, take it a little at a time...

I thought about trowing in the towel, but right now it's full of oil, greese, gasoline, and gear oil, so it would be a fire hazard...:hide:
Guess I'll keep her and work on things one step at a time.

My brother and both brother-in-laws have diesel pickups, each a different brand. Everytime I have driven one of theirs I am ready to go in a different direction - so I quit driving them. I just keep telling my self - look at how expensive those trucks will be when it comes to making a repair besides the monthly payment.
My Jeeps are rare and are cool. It must be the compliments my vehicles receive when I have them out - keeps me coming back for more.

Ive talked to my wife before bout selling it. and she says no way. I know its not going anywhere. Just need to take my time. need to also get a plan and stick with it. its very hard to accomplish anything when my plans keep changing every month.

This is my tactic too...take a break, work on something else, clean up the shop, think, think, think. My cherk has been torn down to parade rest for months now while I worked up the energy to go get the donor motor. Got it this weekend and spent some time yesterday prepping the shop for the swap...sort of gearing up for it. I got pretty fired up about it actually.
I completely agree with Janie too...if it ain't fun then we shouldn't do it anymore...take a break, and if you come back and it STILL ain't fun, find something that is.

My problem is I take too long to do what I have planned so I come up with a new idea and get most of the stuff to do it. So then I have almost enough stuff to get my project almost done the way I want(ed) to a couple of different times but I have never wanted to throw in the towel. I guess you actually have to work on the project to get tired of it enough to want to throw in the towel.

yep, i hit rock bottom a few months back and wanted to give up. i was told to make a list, and that made it worse. but after taking a little break (not that i've had the time, anyway), i'm ready to put some more work back into it to get it closer to finished. i just can't wait to hear it fire up for the first time. :)
i also took on another project (the DD toyota) to distract myself for a while. i think it helped.

Threw in the towel when the tranny went out about 3 months after I bought it. (decided to take a new direction)
Threw in the towel after fighting with the LT1/4L60E to get it mounted so I could move it across country (let it sit for several months after I got it to Virginia)
Threw in the towel after getting it on the road only to have it leave my wife and I stranded on I-85 when the main bearings went after driving it only about 1500 miles. (pulled the engine, tore it down, lost hope...eventually ordered a Golen engine)
Threw in the towel after the new Golen engine decided it wanted to spit and sputter about 150 miles into the break-in (new MSD Optispark)
Threw in the towel then I got home from overseas this time and it wanted to shut down on me cruising down the road (bad grounding, sensors from sitting for 14 months)
Threw in the towel YESTERDAY when we were on our way home from N.C. and the tranny decided it really did not need tranny fluid and started pumping it out the passenger side onto the exhaust (babied it home on back roads and got it to the trans shop this evening)
I am sure I will throw a LOT more towels before it is done.
What I AM getting tired of throwing is $$$. My little savings for doing the body and interior are gradually getting eaten by drivetrain issues since I got home. I chalk it up to the fact that it sat in the driveway for 14 months and no one started, moved, looked at it the whole time..
For what it is worth, the owner of the tranny shop stopped work, called his 3 workers over and pointed out all the details of my engine/tranny/computer swap.. I got a kick out of that.
