I'm toying with the idea of putting a NV4500 in my M715. I'm going to start calling the local junkyards... What trucks came with these things? I know some Dodges and Chevies had them, but I'm not sure which models. Ah, and it needs to be 2WD (divorced TC in my truck). Any ideas?
Thanks.

Mikel, the obvious answer is either junk yards, or from Advance Adapters/Novak. They both sell them, but for premium prices, but so do the junk yards that know what they have.

What I needed to know is what kind of truck to ask about. Dodge Rams? I'm pretty sure they know what those things are worth, but I think it's worth a try.
Thanks...

You could get them in all Dodge rams 1500, 2500 and 3500 from 1994 and up as did a number of full size 3/4 and 1 ton chevy trucks since 1993. I believe Dodge switched to a NV5600 for almost all the 3500's by 1996, though I think you could still get the NV4500 if you wanted it. The chevy from 1993 and 1994 had the low 6.34 to one first gear, but had some problems with bearings. The 1995 and later has a 5.61 to 1 first gear as did all of the dodge trucks. The conversion with a dodge transmission allows you to buy or make a 1 inch adapter between a jeep bellhousing and the tranny with later model FSJ's. I have no idea what you will need for the M715. Both versions have 1 1/8" 10 spline input shafts like the AMC jeeps, but the dodge is an inch longer which allows for the adapter. There are two firms that routinely sell them on ebay for around $1000 plus a core or $1400 with a core.

According to AA:
*the 6.34:1 1st gear was available only in the '93-'94 trucks, those years had noisy 3rd gears and stiff shifting
*in '95 the shifting and gear noise were fixed, 1st gear went to 5.6:1
*you can get bellhousings to fit all three ranges of GMC versions of the NV4500 to AMC 4.0, 4.2 and V8, as well as GM V6/8
*their Dodge info, as far as applications, is screwed up in the catalog.
