View Full Version : GM NP205 questions?

Refering to '76-'84 TH400 applications only:
1) were there any NP205s in that range that had a fixed rear yoke or were all the auto 205s slip yoke outputs at the rear? Possibly the one ton?
2) did any 205s in that range have 32 spline front outputs and yokes? Specifically what year and truck... probably a one ton?
Trying to figure out the best 205 for my doubler, that will require the least amount of $200 modifications. smile.gif ;) tongue.gif
Thanks

From what I understand the only 205 that will work for the doubler is the one that was from behind a TH400 or else the 200.00 parts to convert it. Mine is from a 80 K35 and it is a fixed yolk. I am looking for the TH400 version of the NP203 gearbox now and trying to determine if the TH400 with the Tailshaft for the NP205 will work for the NP203. I want the Doubler as well, I have the correct 205 just need the adaptor and Range box of the 203.

The mid 80's rare turbo 400 NP205's were the best Chevy made. 32 spline input and rear output, 29 spline front output.
I have a Cummins version HD NP205 that is a 29 spline input, and 32 spline outputs and I am putting a 32 spline input shaft in it to make it as strong as possible.
Crazy_Jeepman, I think you'll find it is cheaper to buy a totally rebuilt and modified NP203 GRB from ORD and they will install the doubler for you for free. With this, you get all new bearings, fromt of the case drilled with the NP400 pattern (No adapter so shorter) and 32 spline input shaft. NP203 Turbo 400 versions you are looking for are rare. Everyone I know who wanted this ended just buying a modified GRB from ORD.

Thanks, try:

Does that Cummins version have a fixed rear yoke and about what year/make vehicle was it out of... Dodge?
Thanks

Yes, fixed rear yoke and larger bearings to accomdate the torque of the Cummins. Beefiest NP205 you can buy. Plan on spending $1,200. They are very rare and only made the 2 years. 98 and 99 I think and they only came on the cab chassis dually trucks I think.
Heck, the 32 spline Chevy units are going for $800 if someone knows what they have. Crazy got the deal of a lifetime on that Chevy truck he bought and still owes me they Hydraulic PTO! tongue.gif
BTW, I have a couple of spare 32 spline fixed yoke Chevy NP205's laying around if you can't find one.

Well I just ordered it, 1502.00 to my door. PASCAL I need an NP208 to TH400 and TH400 output shaft for the NP208. The 205 output shaft will not work, neither will the Dana 20 or the 2 wheeldrive shaft work!!! I will have the TH400 to NP205 output and the TH400 to NP205 adaptor for sale soon if anyone needs that. The adptor is the Fig 8 design. Oh and Pascal,I am still KEEPING the PTO and PUMP!!! LOL so NO TRADES!!!

Crazy_Jeepman, I have several T400 to NP208 setups all in perfect shape. Not interested in selling and the only thing I can think of that I need in trade is a NP205 hydaulic PTO pump. Know where I can find one? LOL, JK

Seriosly, I have what you need. Will you be using the CAD engine? If not, the T400's I have can just bolt in with a Chevy engine, no mods. All i have less than 10,000 miles.
What do you want to trade?

I will be using the Caddy 500, but with a BOP to Chevy Adaptor. That way if I blow it up on the road somewhere, I would have a half a chance of finding a replacement TH400 instead of trying to find a BOP cased TH400 with a NP208 Tailshaft, I would hate to try that trick!!! Trade Hmmmm I do have the NP205 TH400 and Adpator if that interests you, This TH400 has a fresh REBUILD on it. Other than that, I do not know.

If you are just using an adapter, my CUCV T400's will bolt up and are the HD diesel units. Massive low rpm convertor, beefed housing, etc. Should be able to just bolt it up and go.
FSJeeper,
Do you have a TH400/NP205 combo?
All I need is the TH400 case and the 205.
Oh yeah, that mid-70's 3/4 ton is still sitting at the lot in South Houston. I need the engine, Pete was looking for the NP 203 which he may not need now and eithe your or Glenn were interested in the axles. FF in the rear and I believe a 44 HD in the front.

I do not think it would be cost effective for me to ship my setup and you ship yours, if interested in trading at all. I can sell my Rebuilt TH400 and NP205 adaptor for a pretty decent price since the adaptor alone was running around 200.00 when I was searching for it. I may have one local, I had just called on, waiting for a return call on it. Email me a price on your setup, Th400 with 208 output and adaptor, I think you gave me a price on it before when I was at PLAN XII Now that I am at Plan XXIII I have forgoten!!

243, I have the T400 and 32 spline NP205, but would need Crazy_Jeepman's adapter to bolt it up.
Yes, I would be interested in the axles if the gear ratio is good. Like 3.73 or 4.10's. 4.10's would be preferable.

I would need the TH400 to NP203 adaptor, TH400 outputshaft, and the front half of the 203. Otherwise I will just send to check to OFD for the complete setup I now have ordered.

Pete, mid 70's 3/4 ton would have the Turbo 350 and 27 spline outputshaft.

Guys, I seen the TH400 and NP203 with my own eyes...they are both in the bed of the truck. I don't think he's gonna take less than 5 bills, do ya'll think it's worth it?
I can swing by and see if he wants to move it...I stopped by several weeks ago and he said "a couple of guy's are gonna give me 500 for it" but it was still there a few day's ago.

243,
I think you're prolly talking about the same tranny/tc. I can't tell you if $500 is reasonable.

If he only wants $500 for the whole truck, lets split it up. I'll buy the axles, you want the engine, sound slike a part out job to me.
I am going out of the country for a while but if you let me know what gear ratio the axles are, and if it is not something stupid like 3.07's, I'll send you money for the axles and maybe the T400 and NP203 if someone else does not want it.
It's a full time case, could it be a 208? My uncle had a 77 1/2 ton with a 400ci and a full time case, what would that have been?
How long will you be out of town?
Pete?

If it is a 77 1/2, it is either a NP203 or NP205. NP208 did not come out till 1980.
I will be leaving Friday, back Tuesday, leaving next Thurs and then out of the country till the 3rd.
Pete?
I'll go look at it this weekend and get more info.

Get the info I would be interested in splitting the costs if I can get the Tail Shaft out of the TH400 and the front half of the NP203.
Thanks ;)
