Yea its another tire size post BUT with a twist kinda ... I already know that 31" tires will fit fine with a 4" lift on my '86 Waggy. Heres the twist...
Heres my question ... when 33" tires rub on a 4" lift is it because of the width, the height, or overall tire diameter?
For example most peeps scrap the stock wheelz and run 33x12.5 tires on 15x10 or 15x8 rims ... If I ran the stock wheelz and ran 33x10.5 tires and the skinny stock 7" rims would they fit or would they still hit because of the diameter?
Sry for another tire size post ... lol ... but looked in what fits and hits and searched forums but could not find enough info.
Thx
Matt

33/10.50 will rub on the inside of the rear wheel wells on stock wheels, if you look in the fender well its a little square thing it rubs on someone here said its the mount for rear seat belts.

33's rub on an NT with a 4" lift regardless of width. The over all diameter is to large for the rear fender openings with out trimming. The front will be ok so long as they are not warn out and actually only 3".

kk ... thx for the nfo guys ... might just go wider 33x12.50s on 8" wheelz or 33x14.50s on 10"ers with some cut-out flares (U guys think the 14.50s would fit with cut-outs?) Seen somehwre someone did it and I think it took about 3 inches off the fenders if I member right (which I probly am not hehe) ... thinking those flares would look goofy with the woody crap on the side so that might be going soon after.
Anyone know what make and year is the best fitting cut-out flares for the Grand Wag? Thought I read somewhere that the XJ cut-outs look decent but would be sweet to confirm it ;)
Also whats the easiest way to take the woody off (if it looks goofy with the flares)?
Sry for my crappy posts ... on so much pain meds and muscle relaxers my brain jumps all over the place.
Agin THX for all the nfo!!!

XJ flares almost look like the were meant for the SJ, but a little trimming on the flare is required.
YJ and TJ flares will also work, but they will make the front look a bit more aggressive. I have posted pics with some TJ flares mocked up several times. I you cant find the pics by doing a search with my name, I will be happy to post them for you again.
THe best way to peel off the wood is with a heat gun. If you have a heater for your garage, crank it up HIGH the night before, the attack the sticker with a heat gun and plastic putty knife. The hotter the sticker, the eaiser it comes off...

I would stick with 12.50's unless you are just doing mud or sand. Otherwise 14.50's give you worse traction in many cases.
I had 33x12.50's on my NT cherokee with 8" wheels and a 4" lift (5" lift in back though) with 1.25" trimmed front and rear. Never rubbed.

lol yea I thought about the 14.50s after I posted lol wouldn't work well for what I need (nice brain fart lol)
12.50x on 8"ers will look perfect IMO with the XJ cut-outs and 4" lift
Again thx for ur time guys!!!
EDIT: DOH ... just noticed in the link for the XJ flares it says Jaybird ... thx for the nfo Jaybird!!!

3" lift and 33/9.50/15s (only BFG still makes them AFAIK) with no rubbing in an 83 Wag. They work well on my bone stock '83 J10 as well. I had them on my '73 J4000 for a bit too (looked good!)

I put a 6" Hell Creek lift on my 86 wag. Concerned about rubbing and wanting to use classic Chero slots I ordered a set of 33x10.5 radial swamper TSL's. They fit nicely. Never any rub. Tracked straight and true doing 70+ down the highway. A lot of people said they looked silly skinny under the rig. I could have gone to a 12.5. I like the idea of a small body lift to get the extra room if you currently have a 4" lift. I should note that the wag had all new replacement body mount rubber installed before I got it so that may have given it a little boost over the stock, cracked 20 year old stuff that most people are working with.
I really didn't see a reason to go with the 4" lift as the 6" was the same price at the time (x-mas time 07). I did not need to make any driveshaft changes. The only thing extra I ordered after the lift was a sway bar disco kit which did improve handling as I was running with no sway bar for the first 500 or so miles after the lift.

Same lift with 31x10.5's on it while I was waiting on the 33's to come in.

33/9.5 BFG ATs on '83 Wag w/ 4 or 5" BDS spring lift & stock 15x7 alloys -- Rub at the bottom trailing edge of the rear fenders at full articulation. Very slight bending of the sheetmetal takes care of it. Will also rub the back side of the front springs at full steering lock without adjusting the stops.

When in doubt, Go higher.
Nice Sig ... gonna take that to heart ... after doing lil more research and after I noticed the 6" lift generally doesn't require driveline changes ... thinking of going to a 6" and 33x12.50s BFG MTs now ... might as well go the xtra 2" and eliminate some of the probs of trying to fit 33" on a 4" lift lmfao!!!
Thx for all the nfo and comments peeps!!!

Good idea. Everyone I know that has purchased and installed a 4" says later on that they should have gone with the 6". Installation was a breeze with the help of a few friends. Front just unbolted. The rear - well you just have to experience getting the old bolts out of the rear most hangers to truly appreciate a FSJ. LOL.
My e-brake cable was so tight that I could not muscle the axle on to the perches. I cut the e-brake cables out. A longer rear brake line was included but I did not need it. After 1,000 miles or so the ride really smoothed out - not as comfy as stock but smoothed out nicely even with the Rough Country shocks.
I'm not sure what the backspacing is on the Chero slots but my tires were well within the NT flares. 12.50's would have put them outside of the flares the distance of a gnat's Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley. Delaware Jeepers get away with a foot of tire hanging out. Here in Maryland we get pulled over for tires sticking out an inch or two, ride height, playing 80's hair metal too loud, etc.
Good luck and post pics.
