So I took all the badges off the Kaiser except the j3000 badges (too much work for a tuesday)
Scrubbed and cleaned like hired help for about an hour...
went from this,...

Question for you all is, should I repaint the details, or just leave them bling chromie?? If I repaint the details, what colors?
The will be going back on after I paint her in three tone...
Black, OD Green, and Desert Tan. (cammo colors, but not cammo paterns) the badging will be on the Tan stripe.
I am leaning toward leaving them clean chrome as a total contrast to the military flat paint scheme.

Use the same three colors you're painting your rig for the detail colors of the emblems. Personally I like seeing off the wall details like that. When i worked in a Firestone dealer I used to line up the S in Firestone with the valve stem on every white letter I mounted. Quirky, but neat. My buddy still has a set on his car that I mounted that way years ago.

X-2 on the factory colors, otherwise it looks Auto Zone.

The factory colors are white and gold until the AMC V8s started being used - around 71. The badges for those are black/white and the older ones are white/gold/red.

I'd go desert tan and black (letters) on the Jeep spear and olive drab over black on the V8 emblem.

I didn't figure anyone here would want NOS V-8 emblem so I put on Ebay, ends this Sat.

What I really want is a "Vigilante V8" badge set.
Guess I'll have to do a few trials to figure out exactly what colors I will finish with.
I may do the upper accent strip on the Jeep in dark tan instead of the desert tan even.

There is no Vigilante V8 emblem. Just the decals on the valve covers.

Guess I need those then for when I repaint the valve covers. There are currently no decals there...

Ok, got the other badges off, and cleaned up a little. Have not soaked the paint off yet.
Here's a shot of all the badging for one side of the truck...

The silver stripe and roof top will be tan, the brown stripe will be od green, the gold color, and entire hood, will be black.

Ok, so after much debate, and opinions from you guys too, here's what I did...
Finished restoration, http://www.zr2nw.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10003/badges%20done.jpg
Now if I can ever get the time and paint to actually paint the truck...

Looks very NICE!
The 4 and WHEEL DRIVE should be gold though. Black lettering is correct for the 71+ trucks.
Nice work, you can never go wrong with the original colors!

I did compromize a little to make them fit into the intended paint sceme tho'. After hand painting the colors, I shot everything with a flat clear to even out the finish and tone down the bling of the chrome some. on an all sating finish truck, they should fit right in.
So the 4 wheel drive should be gold?? Those had original paint on them before stripping, so perhaps they were replaced at some point??
